I froze in complete shock.

Then they began charging at me and i let out a terrifying scream and began running towards my living room. I quickly grabbed a book off my table, but in that moment two hands grabbed my waist and lifted me up aggressively, knocking the wind out of my stomach. I tried swinging the book at the terrifying stranger but the book fell from my hands to the floor and I let out a few more horrid screams. The second man tried grabbing my legs but I kicked and punched as I hard as I could. still screaming, the first man tried covering my mouth while i kicked the second one making him fly back against the wall. the first burglar dropped me then picked me up again and threw me across my glass coffee table making me hit the end of my couch. I started to let out heavy sobs and tried to scream louder but the pain was kicking in and I was still in shock seeing the two men with only dark eyes peering out of their masks coming to me again, but this time holding weapons. As I laid on the ground shaking, I clenched my teeth ready to take on the pain. I knew they were probably going to kill me now.

As they got closer a loud noise of bashing started behind the two men. at the end of the hall, my front door was being smashed down. The two dangerous men immediately turned to see a man charge down the hall. Still in shock, i reconized the man. it was the tattooed, young man who moved in next door. I told myself I was going to die. this is end. He came in tensed up, with his fists tightened and veins sticking out of his neck. He took one swing at the first burglar making him collapse to the floor. then instantly shoving the second burglar to the wall making him let out a huge grunt. I watched the first man get up and run out my door half limping while the second one still tried to fight the tattooed neighbour of mine. but he soon threw him out the door too and he never came back in. I now realized my glass coffee table was shattered by my body thrown on to it. I looked down to see my arms and hands had been cut up and bruised. I looked back up to see the tattooed man rushing towards me. he fell to his knees picking me up and holding me against him. I began to cry again. why isnt he going to kill me? His once angered self had turned into a gentle and caring one. he had both arms carefully around me. his hands so warm on my abused skin. He started rocking with me trying to calm me down. "The police are on their way. it's alright. you're ok... shh." he calmly said into my head. Once feeling afraid of him, changed. I felt safe in that moment. his voice.. it sounded so familiar. I could swear ive heard it before and I was in love with it. I had my arms now holding him too not wanting to let me go. he was going to protect me. sirens began to be heard outside of my window. The gentle young man holding me spoke again.
"it's going to be ok.... I'm calum." I looked up at him with teary eyes, "I-I'm valerie." I choked out. "That's a beautiful name.." his warm breathe whispered down my head and neck. It smelt like ciggarettes and mint. somewhat comforting to me. "thank you." I said but right when I said that loud stomping came down my hall and into my apartment. "Police!!!" an officer shouted coming in. he quickly rushed in to me and I saw another officer behind him who began scoping out my home. "there gone." calum spoke up. The officer and calum began to pick me up off the ground. I looked around to see everything kicked and smashed as the police was scoping out my house with guns. everything started getting overwhelming and I began to cry a little again. "it's ok ma'am. Its all over. Im going to get you out now, Ok?" he told me briefly.

I could hear calum walking behind me down the hall leaving the apartment. I kept trying to look back to see if he was still there. I didnt want him to go. I was carried outside to see a few cop cars and an ambulance. "there are medics here to help you." the officer said to me as we walked closer to the ambulance. three medics quickly rushed out setting me down in that back of the ambulance. I just sat there while they started asking me questions on pain level and trying to check if anythign was broken. red and blue lights were flashing and neighbours were standing outside in their robes and police officers were rushing around trying to figure out what happened to the burglars. but in that all, there stood the man who saved my life. I watched him lean against the apartment building looking around at the commotion. he pulled out a ciggerette and lighter from his pocket and inhaled the ciggarette. he tilted his head back gracefully and let out a puff of smoke. Something about him was so dangerous looking but I swear I could see something else in him. something so harmless. he was just a gentle creature. he was misunderstood.
