What good is a witch without her powers?
Not a lot, you'd think. Well, you'd be wrong, although Puddlebrain, the star of my latest book, has a hard time figuring that out.
Wayyyy back during the decade it took me to write Sin, I also worked on other stories and poems. It wasn't an easy time, hence some of the poetry in Dark and Darker Places being written. I did, however, work on some more upbeat, fun pieces to raise my spirits. This included Zits'n'Bits and a story about a witch and her not-so-friendly gnome.
Because Sin sort of took me over, Puddlebrain was put to one side. I pretty much forgot about it until a while ago. I re-read what I'd written and loved the story. Billy, the gnome, was wonderfully obnoxious, much in the way Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy is. I told myself I'd finish the book, but then went on to write things like Mr. Composure, And the Meek Shall Walk and so much more. I felt sorry for the characters. They were left there waiting for me to get round to letting them finish their story.
What could I do? I had to do it!
So I did. I finished the book and Puddlebrain is the result. And, of course, I'm sharing it with you wonderful readers and friends.
So, what's it about?
Puddlebrain, Gemini and Edna are witches who spend all their time bickering. At over 300 years old, Puddlebrain is still the baby of the family and is treated as such by her sisters. The problem is, and one of the reasons they're so short tempered, they've lost their powers.
After an unfortunate incident with the Mayor and a family of silverfish, the sisters are magic-less.
When a shadow begins abducting the villagers, it's up to Puddlebrain - aided only by Billy, the grumpy gnome who took up residence in their garden - to save them all. To do so, she must enter the Grimace, a massive dark forest with a mind of its own...
See what I mean? Cheerful stuff.
Readers have already been saying how they've laughed through whole chapters and that it's their favourite story of mine! I'm humbled by the response and hope, if I can tempt you to drop by, you feel the same.
Enjoy!
