"M-me??? HOW?" I stammered, feeling dizzy.
Noah smiled a little. "Watch this." He said, then holding out his hand and summoning a huge orb that glowed black. To my surprise and shock, he launched it right towards me.
"GAHH!" I yelped and held out my hands to block the orb from hitting my face, and closed my eyes. Frankly, I didn't feel anything hit me. Instead, when I opened my eyes, a huge black wall of obsidian was in my face. I raised my hand to touch it, and when I made contact with it, the wall vanished, fading to little pieces of small, dust-like rock fragments.
"Looks like you just found out one of your powers." Noah seemed impressed.
"Wait, before we go any further, why isn't anyone staring at us thinking that something's wrong? I mean, they're all eating lunch like nothing's happening." I observed.
"That's the power of something we call the Fog. Regular beings can't see anything unusual or magical. I'm guessing that when you blocked my attack, they just saw me... um... punching you? And you probably caught my fist or something..." Noah guessed.
I have to say, Noah looks pretty cute when he's thinking deeply or extremely focused on something.
"That's pretty cool..." I said, not knowing what else to say.
"Anyways, before more of Lord Seth's goons get to us, we'd better get out of here. Like, WAYYY out." Noah said, looking around.
"WHAT? But what about my friends? My mother?" I asked, worried.
"Don't worry, I've got that covered. Um, I just erased their memory, so they think that you were never part of their lives. Well, except for your mom. I just left a black note saying that 'It's time'. She'll understand. You know, she was one of the best Twilights we ever had... until one of the Shadows took away her magical powers. Now she's just a regular mortal - not to be mean." Noah said, standing up and holding out his hand to me. "We'd better go."
Blushing, I took his hand. He pulled me up, and we held hands for an awkward moment.
"Ready to fly?" He whispered in my ear.
"I'm more than ready." I whispered back confidently.
With a flash, strong, feathery, yet light and flexible wings appeared on his back. Noah stretched them, then pulled me along with him. I gripped his hand tightly, fearing that if I didn't, I would fall. We flew along the Grade 8 corridors, his wingspan just fitting the width of the walls. He stopped for a split second at the door to exit the building to open it, and we flew outside into the fresh, cool air.
"I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this, but..." Noah let go of my hand, and I screamed as I fell 5 meters through the air. But suddenly, I felt myself go slower. I looked back, and there it was; the wings I had spotted in the mirror in Grade 5. With a whoop, I did a somersault and flew unsteadily back to where Noah was waiting.
"Wh-whoa!" I said, as a strong gust of wind blew by, unbalancing me with my inexperienced wings.
Noah grabbed onto my waist to steady me. "Flying takes practice!" I nodded. "First, you must relax and clear your mind."
I tried to clear my mind, but all that I could think of was my wings and how unsteady they were.
"Relax, Stephanie. You must empty your mind of thoughts."
I concentrated on his words, closed my eyes, and thought of nothing. Blank, white, emptiness. It worked.
"Good. Now, try to think of your wings. Trust them." Noah instructed.
