Close your eyes and try to to get yourself a glass of water. Now drink it and let me tell you that you are not allowed to open your eyes for 10 minutes. How would you feel? Well, what if I told you that you are not allowed to open your eyes ever again. What if you wake up to find yourself blind. What if you found out that you have lost your sight? Will you ever be happy again? Will you ever be able to read or write again?

This is the story of Louis Braille. Born in 1809, France. When Louis turned three, an eye injury left him blind. He used to study at the Royal Institute for Bind Youth in Paris. But can the blind really learn? Louis Braille is the boy who lost his sight but never gave up. He wanted to educate himself and other blind children.

He invented a system of learning for the blind. It was called Braille. You must have heard of it. But did you know it was invented by a blind boy? People who are blind use Braille to read with the help of raised dots.

Not only this, he wanted to make a better life for the blind and so, became a full time teacher at the Royal institute and made it his mission to teach the blind. He died when he was 43.

Today, Braille is used around the globe to teach the blind and studies have shown that adults who learnt using Braille have higher employment rates and spent more time reading than those who learnt using print. Louis Braille proves that even a blind boy can change the world for the better and become a hero.
