Throughout the lesson I debated if I should say something.
Before I knew it the bell rang, and with a brief wave of our teacher's hand we were dismissed. I hung back, purposefully taking several minutes to organise my stuff so I could study Chase. He took a couple of minutes to gather his stuff too, but once his bag was on his back he almost jogged to the door, swung it open, and proceeded hastily off down the corridor. I had to run to keep up with him.
"Hey, uh. Chase?" I called after him. He slowed and turned round.
"Yeah." His voice was choked and sounded muffled. "What?"
"Just checking you are...okay? You looked a little, um..." I stumbled on my words, "not okay, earlier." He clenched his jaw.
"Yeah I'm fine. I just...rough morning okay?" He turned to go.
"Um okay, I just-"
"I'm fine. Just let me go to calculus."
"Ok."
Ouch.Chase's POV:
English was drawn-out and I could feel Adam's eyes boring a hole into my chest. I don't mind him looking at me usually, but today was just not a good day. I left the class as quickly as I could, hoping that if I could get outside the door without him following me I might be able to just disappear into the crowds.
Of course there were no crowds, and the corridor was empty and barren like a desert, with just the occasional students milling about like tumbleweed.
So I braced myself, waiting for Adam to shout after me, and when I turned around the contorted look of concern on his face made my heart twist. I hated shrugging off his worry but I just needed some space, no matter how much I wanted him to care. No matter how much he cared for me.
I'm sorry, Adam.
~ Sorry this one's short, might put another one up tonight or tomorrow ~
