The memories come flooding back. The brain virus, watching the people I love slowly go insane. I wait in the Box as it rises. Sunlight suddenly pours in. I gaze up through the wire doors. 20-30 boys were standing around the opening. "Are you just going to stand there or open this thing?"
"Gonna be sarcastic, open it yourself," One boy calls down. Bad attitude, but good god his eyebrows are awesome! Wait a second, I've seen his face before...
"Lame comeback, hun. But I've tried. I can't touch the doors or the walls of this thing without it burning me," I deadpan back. I reach up and grab a part of the doors. My skin sizzles and starts emitting smoke. I grunt and take my hand away. Another boy opens the doors. Eyebrow dude reaches his hand down to help me up. I take his hand but instead of him pulling me up, I yank him down. The rest of the boys start laughing at my actions. I chuckle and help him up. "Next time, don't be so snarky," I climb out of the Box.
"Feisty, isn't she?"
"Kinda hot"
"Kinda? Hello! Look at her!"
"Gally is gonna be pissed as klunk,"
I smirk at the boys' remarks.
"She's almost TOO calm, don't ya think?"
"Shut it shanks!" I turn towards the commanding voice. A dark skinned boy comes forward, he must be their leader. "Names Alby Greenie," I raise my left eyebrow. "Do you happen to remember yours?" With that question, all eyes on me.
"Elizabeth," I bluntly reply.
"Well then, Elizabeth, welcome to the Glade," Alby welcomes.
"Also known as Hell," another boy says. A clambering is heard from behind me. The boy I yanked into the Box is getting out, he looks pissed.
"What the Hell was that?!" He yells.
"It was fun," I smirk at him.
"Doesn't give you the right to yank me down into the Box," He yells again.
"Oh honey, I can do whatever I want and you can't do a damn thing about it," I say sweetly. That just made him even angrier. He went for a punch but I speed ducked it. Thank you vampire super speed! I just smile.
"Ok Gally enough!" A skinny Brit puts himself between us. That name, I definitely know this boy...but how...? A finger taps my shoulder. I turn to see Alby.
"Time for the tour, Elizabeth," Alby motions for me to follow him. I nod and follow him. Alby shows me around the Glade then leads me up to a lookout tower. He starts to speak again but I interrupt him.
"Look Alby there's something that you need to know. Actually there's a lot you need to know," I look at him and his eyes are filled with understanding and confusion. "I remember. And I mean everything. I know EXACTLY why you all are here and who put you here. Now I can't tell anyone. I'm not scared. N-"
"We have a saying, 'If you ain't scared, you ain't human'" Alby says.
"You're completely right, Alby, I'm not human. I'm a vampire. I'm immortal, only one thing can kill me. I'm faster than anything, stronger than anything, I can see through the dark, hear for a hundred miles. And my blood, my blood can heal any wound. Only catch, I need to drink blood to survive," I tell him, watching the Gladers work.
"Well, that explains the hundreds of bags filled with blood that came up with you," Alby chuckles.
"Yup, that keeps me from killing anyone," I softly laugh.
"Alright, c'mon. We're celebrating your arrival tonight."
"Uh, Alby? This stays between you and I right?" I somewhat state and ask.
"Of course, now come. You're the guest of honor!" The sun sets, soon the Glade in enveloped in darkness. The Gladers start celebrating my arrival. Banging on makeshift drums and dancing pretty badly. I watch Gally wrestling a poor boy. Gally is strong. The other boy is being thrown around like a rag doll. Gally shoves him and he stumbles into me. Being as strong as I am, I plant a foot and keep him from falling.
"Thanks, Elizabeth," he breathes out. He stands up and walks over to some other Gladers.
"How 'bout you, Girl? Wanna see what you're made of?" Gally challenges me.
"Gally you really don't wanna fight me," I say somewhat as a warning. I'm not smiling, I am actually serious, I don't want to hurt him. The Gladers start to laugh at my remark.
"I'm actually with her on this one, Gally," Alby backs me up.
"How about we make the odds a little more even, shall we? We can punch, kick, jab, anything except eye gouging, alright?" I suggest then look to Alby for the ok. Alby solemnly nods.
"Just try not to beat him up too badly!" Alby jokes with a chuckle.
"Yeah right Alby! Like she could even get a pun-" I see my chance I speed to him and punch, hard. Right in the chest. Gally is soon on the ground.
"You were saying?" A smirk tugging on my lips. Surprise is present in the Gladers voices. Gally sweeps his leg. My legs fly up from under me. I tuck into a ball and soon land on my feet.
"Think you were being smart, huh? I've been defending myself and fighting since before you were born," I say, thinking back on my life. Then it hit me. I remember him now.
"Gally Rosen you get out of the street this instant!" I command worried. I was a nanny for this little guy. He was such a sweet kid. So polite and caring.
I am pushed from my flashback with a punch to the face. I do an aerial cartwheel to recover. "Lucky shot," I jab. Gally lunges at me again and I speed to the other side of the circle. I smile and wave my fingers.
"How di-" Gally asks bewildered.
"There's a lot of things you all don't know about me," I say mysteriously.
