morning cycle

Heat on my knees
my ankle warming in the morning
sunlight
my lungs full of the warm air
my forehead beginning to sweat
a rest by the road
and voices passing me by.

The grass smells
sweet and moistured
the hurried flapping
of a falling pigeon
sounds above me
and it takes off into the sky
but lands in a nearby tree.
