Keep me safe

"Mommy, when I get older I will go up to heaven and live with God right?"  Mommy tucked hair behind my ear.

"Yes, sweety.  All you have to do is believe, pray, and try your best not to sin.  God will always be there for you.  Always."

This and so many other memories went through my head after the big yellow truck ran into me. I only wanted to get my doll that my older brother threw onto the road.  Now I was floating through clouds of memories.

"She has such a beautiful soul,"  God said as he watched her float up to him.  It was one of the brightest souls he had seen in a while.

"How much do you want to bet that her pure soul would be as black as mine if she went through Hell first."

"Ha!  You wouldn't be able to be around a kind soul like hers for too long Lucifer, but I accept your deal.  The winner takes everything from the other side."

"Deal.  You have too much faith in your creations."  Just as he came he disappeared into a cloud of ash.  God just smiled.

"Child in these hard times ahead Seek me and my strength; seek my presence continually."

Suddenly my sweet memories were no longer flying through clouds but turning to my sad, and darkest memories no longer flying in the clouds but falling deep into a hole dug in front of a grave stone and I went down with them.

I felt the heat and fear of the place I was in.  At first, all I could think of was this is not heaven.  Then I met Lucifer.  He looked about my age brown hair, cute.  The only thing that gave him away was his hypnotizing red eyes.  Swirling in them was the pain of every sinner.

"Where is your God now, oh so faithful one?  He has left you alone and has given you to me."  I looked at the devil and smiled.  That surprised him greatly and he raised his voice at me.  "Did you not hear me, small child?  Your God has abandoned you to the pits of Hell for no reason."

"I don't believe you.  God wouldn't do that."  I took a step towards him but he disappeared behind a wall of fire.

"He would."  Lucifer smiled.  I stepped towards the wall of fire.

"God be with me."  I walked through the fire feeling Gods presence the whole way through.  "He didn't leave me I just felt him."  I walked towards the devil who looked stunned.  I wrapped my little arms around him and embraced him in a hug.  "Why are you so sad.  God is with you I feel him.  He loves you."

Lucifer screamed then was gone and I was plunged into darkness.

God saved me and ten others, but he could not save the boy with the sad red eyes.  He is lost and doesn't want to be found.

Ever.
