Allen POV

Its her funeral today.

The girl who stole my heart.

The one who broke my heart.

The one who is lying in the huge coffin, lifeless, empty,

Dead.

People are taking turns to place a flower on her. Woman are sitting around (trying) to cry, men are standing in one corner, talking in hushed tones, little kids are staring at her, waiting for her to jump back to life.

And strangely, I am too.

But not for loving her again. Not for giving her another chance.

But for the poor baby who should have been bought forth in this world.

Nadine was pregnant. Its not a matter of concern for me, but why?

But, then again, I never really knew her. She was acting it out the whole time.

I go out of the small crowded room. She was bought from Canada , and they are going to bury her in the nearby graveyard, where her father was buried. I look at the watch. I know this small town is far from New York, but Annalie had agreed to come.

I call her.

'Hey, Allen, I'll be there in a few minutes', she says . 'Take your time', I say, staring at my shoes.

'When are they burying her?', she asks softly.

'Soon', is all I say.

I go sit on the sidewalk and watch as  more people arrive. A few people give me a sympethetic glance. I ignore them.

Soon, Annalie arrives. She was wearing a black flannel jens her hair in a bun. She looked exhausted, but she runs to the front door, to see Nadine.

*******

Annalie POV

Women were wailing like babies all around the room. Chicago looks...calm compared to Manhattan. I walk past them with a small bouquet of white roses clutched tightly behind my back. A few people stare at me as I walk past them, and one little girl comes up to me.

"Who are you?', she asks, curiously.

I smile at her. "A friend of Nadine', I tell her, nodding my head towards the coffin.

The little girl nods her head vigorously'Tell me, who are you?', I ask her, smiling.

She points to the coffin. 'I am her sister'.

No.

I stare at the little kid, in a faded yellow frock, front two teeths half broken, with a big grin on her face.

She do look like Nadine, with brown hair and dark brown eyes. I grit my teeth and make my way forward, until I see her face.

Nadine's face

She looks a bit pale, but just the same. My heart breaks for her, for her poor mother, for her lovely kid sister.

I gently place the flowers on her. A tear falls from my eyes, and a hand slowly wipes it away. I turn around, and strong arms embrace me. 'She's gone', is all that Allen says, his voice detached and weird.

I pull away from him and look at Nadine. I lean down and give her a light kiss on her cold forhead.

A light kiss.

But it makes everyone give a warm smile in my direction. A woman with a messy blonde hair comes towards me. Nadines mom. I recognized her from the family photo on the wall.

'Are you a friend of Nadine?', she asks, failing to smile. But I dont reply to her question.

I put my hands on her shoulders.'Stay strong', I tell her,'your daughter may have gone in wrong ways, but you have another little girl growing up. You both need each other'.

Before the last word had left my mouth, she hugs me fiercly. I hug her back and look at Allen, who smiles at me with tears in his eyes.
