"Wow, I can't believe it! Bats is actually letting us work in Gotham!"
Everyone's favorite redheaded speedster was practically vibrating with excitement. He had been going on all week about how cool this mission was, and he wasn't the only one. Everyone on the Young Justice team had been looking forward to being in Gotham. Now, here they were, on Miss Martian's bioship, heading to the crime-infested city.
"Let's go over the mission once more." The responsible leader stated in his usual calm manner.
Artemis started restating the mission while sharpening her arrows, "Batman says that there's a chance a warehouse at the edge of Gotham is the base of operations for-"
"For Scarecrow!" Kid Flash finished with a wide grin causing Artemis to look up from her arrows to give him a glare.
"Batman also informed us to only scope out the place and to get back to him if Scarecrow is there," Miss Martian added with a sweet smile.
Superboy snarled, "Why can't Batman do this himself?"
"He wants to test the team," Aqualad replied. "As of late, we haven't been performing as well as Batman wishes us to. Now for the plan."
Aqualad explained what everyone will be doing and then the team parted ways, leaving the bio-ship in camouflage mode behind some trees.

"This wasn't in the plan," Kid Flash sighed. Yes, you guessed it. The team fucked up...majorly. They were trapped in a cage in the middle of the warehouse, and some thug was looking at them through the bars with a wicked grin on his face.
Yeah, I know. A random thug in Scarecrow's hideout? And what about their superpowers that can easily allow the team to escape? What the hell writer! But with this clever use of a dash mark, I time skipped and you totally missed the villain monolog. Come on, be honest, did you really want to hear that? Here, I'll sum it up for you. Scarecrow moved to a different location after realizing Batman was onto him. He left his top brute at the warehouse to distract Batman. The brute had on a headband to stop telepathy since he heard rumors a Martain might be coming. The metal pipes of the cage are electrical and if someone touches it they'd be fried. Blah, blah, blah, insert some evil laughing.
"Yeah, I didn't think your plan was to get captured in 8.3 minutes," a robotic voice called from the shadows, and suddenly a person flipped down from the ceiling. They stood right in front of the cage, in between the thug and the team
It was a kid. They had floppy raven hair and lightly tanned skin with a domino mask covering their eyes. They looked like a boy, wearing black skinny jeans and combat boots. Covering his hands and forearms were long black gloves. He also wore a black tank top that showed off his small, but muscular, biceps. Nonetheless, the kid seemed to be armed with a black gun holster on both sides as well as a knife sheath clipped to his waist.
The thug grinned wider when seeing the boy. The smile he gave sent shivers down the team's spine and they could only assume the kid was bad news, even if he did look only twelve. You never know, Gotham has some really messed up people.
"Now when Canary called me I was thinking maybe you'd get caught in a couple of minutes, possibly hours. And knowing your record, I was leaning towards minutes. But come on! You're superheroes, emphasize on super, 8.3 is just sad." The kid shook his head in mock disappointment while coming closer to the cage bars.
The team shared confused looks. What the hell was this kid talking about?
"Oh was I supposed to introduce myself," his robotic voice questioned. "Well too bad, I'm the person hired to rescue you because the league has had enough of your bullshit. Well, that's not exactly what BC said but close enough."
"How do we know you speak the truth?" Aqualad asked for the team.
The kid gave a menacing smile that was pointed at Miss Martian who was hiding behind Superboy.
He ignored Aqualad while saying to Miss Martain, "You don't want to read my mind sweetie."
"Why not?" Superboy demanded.
"Fine, it's not like I can stop you," was the boy's nonchalant answer before turning his back and walking towards Scarecrow's thug.
"I've heard about you," the brute said as the kid walked toward him.
"Oh have you now?" Questioned the boy over dramatically in the robotic voice he's used this whole time. "That's great, I hope you'll be cooperative then."
Miss Martain screeched making everyone's ears hurt. All the people look towards the green girl whose eyes were full of terror. But the kid didn't look back, he just took out a switchblade and advanced on the thug.
"Told you not to hun," the boy murmured which caused an evil glare from Superboy.
Artemis yelled, "What did you show her?!" but was ignored.
The brute took on a nervous look and stepped back as the kid walked closer, "I will do anything for you. W-What do you want?"
The boy looked down at the switchblade and rubbed his gloved fingers across it, "Usually, your dead body, but I'm on a tight contract." The kid looked up to smile the same menacing grin he gave Miss Martian, "So it'd be better if you just ran."
That's exactly what the thug did. He got the hell out of there leaving the Young Justice team still stuck in the cage. Now, the boy was cackling, his laughs echoing the warehouse sending chills down the hero team's spine
"You weren't actually gonna kill him? Right?" Kid Flash nervously stuttered out. Oh, so innocent.
The kid didn't reply. Just gave him the smile which made Kid Flash feel queasy.
"Oh so nice of him to leave the keys," the kid picked up a key from the floor and went to unlock the cage.
Before turning the key the com in the kid's ear started beeping and he pressed his finger to answer it.
"Ah, BC just the person I was looking to call... Of course, I have the team... Oh, you saw all of that did you..."
The kid took a moment to turn around and wave at a security camera with a huge smile.
"Please, the drama was absolutely necessary... Yeah, I could've done it quicker but did you see his face... Come on, I told Miss M not to try and read my mind, that one's on her."
The comment earned a growl from Superboy to which the boy responded by reprimanding the young hero, "Shhh, I'm on the phone."
"Oh yeah, they despise me... Hey, I'm not here to make friends... Okay, fine, don't get your panties in a twist... I don't know why you called either, but you called so here I am... Okay, bye! You owe me btw, I don't work for free."
"Was that Black Canary?" Aqualad spoke up.
The boy raised an eyebrow, "Do you know anyone else with the initials BC?"
He then turned the key and opened the cage door to let out the heroes.
"Be free!" his robotic voice cackled and the kid was gone in a cloud of smoke before any hero got up.
"This is not how my day was going to go!" Kid Flash pouted.
The kid's cackle echoed the room as his voice bounced off the walls, "And to answer your question, I never make empty threats, Wallace."
Kid Flash tensed and the whole team got into a fighting stance, but there was nobody left in the warehouse except them.
"I never want to go to Gotham again."
Everyone's favorite redheaded speedster huffed as the team exited the warehouse.
