I couldn't believe it.

No fucking way...

The room was silent as footage from the news broadcasted on the giant screens. Senator McFarlon was found dead this morning. His wife discovered his body when she returned from drinks with her friends. Heart attack had taken the life of the 64 year old Senator from the great state of Virginia. His constituents would morn him, a country losing a great man.

Or so they thought.

Senator McFarlon was a Raptor. Now dead, but the funny thing was - we didn't have to kill him. So for that we breathed a little bit easier. But I didn't place my faith in coincidences, not with something this vital. Sure the Senator's days were limited but what were the odds that the man kicked the bucket right when he hit our radar.

And now that one tentacle of this giant fucking mess was suddenly wrapped up in a nice little bow for us...and that didn't sit well with me. But I wasn't going to going to lose too much sleep over his death, to me he was just one more name on a giant fucking list of traitors.

Yep that's right, I was internally happy this problem was solved for us.

Don't judge me...

Ignoring the glances I summons up Albert from the computer in front of me. But the computer followed my commands. Emails from the Senator began popping up. Emails that requested things that needed to be handled discreetly and quietly. Leaving a trail.  I was correct when I assumed we weren't the only ones watching the Senator.

"Son of a bitch. What the hell is this Albert?" Agent Timmons blurted out.

The Major had a theory ...I planted emails in the Senator's name going to a dummy account. Each corresponding with the kills...she was curious if they were being watched. I mean who trusts a politician?

Laughing I sat back in my chair and realized for once the Raptors were unknowingly helping us. From reading these emails, anyone would assume the great Senator was the one that perpetrated the attacks on the Raptor's soldiers. Cleaning house for some reason. We had taken out 11 of their 12 main men. Flags were raised. And the Raptors took action. They just did it against the wrong man.

"You are a fucking genius Albert."

Thank you Agent Timmons.

"Any hope the Congressman will meet the same fate? Because that would be really convenient for us."

I don't see good things for the Congressman Agent Timmons...

Agent Timmons laughed briefly as he made a call to his men. No one was going to lose any sleep over the Senator being killed, it just save us a shit load of time and effort, so we were thankful. See, I wasn't the only one taking his death as a blessing.

I sat back and listened as Albert revealed what he found when he went snooping through the Senator's computer.

With Hacker's help, Albert was now currently erasing any of our digital footprints. Plus the two off-shore bank accounts that the Senator kept from his wife were currently being emptied and closed. The money would be used to take down these fuckers - plus I didn't want it finding its way back into Raptor hands.

Throughout the day we were one more step closer to ending all this bullshit. As more names were revealed, more calls went out. Our agents were busting their asses to keep up, but no one minded. The Renegades stepped in where they could. We were one giant smooth running team, all working together...and it felt...nice. Yeah, nice. To be a part of something bigger. To know the men around this room were with me. It was a feeling I once had with my own me years ago...it was nice to have that back.

The house was finally quiet, everyone passed out from the long day's work, the exhaustion finally taking its tool. Myself included. My bed felt like a large fluffy cloud and I loved how it just sucked you in. It was the one place that I got to truly relax and my soft purple down comforter kept me warm. And even though I was in the one place that always made me sigh in relief, something was missing.

And that something was quietly entering my room and heading my way. Only the sound of boots and jeans hitting the floor cut the silence of the night. It wasn't until the bed shifted and his arms circled me that I breathed again.

"Please don't ask me to leave Jules..." Mac whispered in my ear. Sinking back into his chest I had no intension of kicking him out. After everything I put this man through he continued to come back to me. And there was something significant about that. No matter how many times I continue to fuck us up...

"I'm sorry Mac...you don't deserve..."

"Shh...baby."

And just like that Mac once again taught me something important. That no matter what happens or how shitty your day is, the things that matter the most are the people that you care about.

And that night in my bed Mac continued to show me exactly that.
