For the first time, since traveling with him, I wake before Grayson. The birds are my alarm clock, singing in different harmonies just outside the window.
Grayson sleeps facing me, his lips parted but not hanging open. He doesn't snore, but soft breathes leave his mouth almost inaudibly. Looking at him now, I realize there is something so pure about seeing someone fast asleep.
His forehead is smooth, there is no furrow in his brow. His eyes don't hold any worry or anger. He is more peaceful then anything I've ever seen, more beautiful too.
The loose waves of his hair fall onto his forehead, and with a gentle finger, I push them back into his hairline. The contact makes him stir, his mouth closes completely and hugs tighter to the pillow against his chest.
A smile comes to my face as I watch him, my heart wishes to only see him like this, happy and content. I lean closer to him and press a kiss to his forehead. The smell of his hair filling my nose.
I pull away from him and sit up in bed, pulling my legs out of the sheets. My feet meet the ground, but Grayson's hand falls onto mine. "You don't have to leave," He mumbles into his pillow, his eyes still closed.
Taking a deep breath, a settle back into bed. Grayson discards the pillow against his chest and it lands at the foot of the bed. Eyes still shut, his arms open and his hands wave for me to come closer. I laugh through my nose and move closer to him. My head rests on his pillow and I intertwine my fingers with his, holding it between our chests.
Grayson smiles and lets out a sigh. "This is nice," He says softly, his voice still rough from sleep. I pull myself closer to him and nestle my head against the top of his chest.
A soft knock at the door makes me flinch and raise my head. Grayson smiles and puts a hand on my cheek. "It's fine," He whispers. "Yes?" Grayson calls.
"Morning, just wanted to let you guys know that breakfast is ready," I can hear the smile in Susan's voice.
"We'll be right down," He calls out. I rest my head back down against the pillow and take another deep breath.
"I just want to stay here all day," I pull the comforter up over my head and Grayson laughs, lifting the comforter to he can see me.
"And miss out on a perfectly good day?" He smiles and pulls the comforter off my head completely. "Let's go out to the training barn and see what's up."
"Okay," I nod and get out of bed, rubbing my eyes as I near the door. Upon opening the door, I hear the soft acoustics coming from downstairs. Susan hums along to her music and I smile, jogging my way down the stairs.
The table is set up for 3 and a large stack of pancakes lays as the center piece.
"Damn Sue," Grayson sits down at the table and plops two pancakes onto his plate. "They look delicious." I sit at the spot across from him and put two onto my plate.
"Thank you," I say, pouring syrup across my plate. She smiles at me warmly.
"Aria, I gathered some of my old clothing for you to wear during your stay. And, Grayson, Ken has provided hand-me-downs as well," She scoots her chair in and begins to eat.
"Awesome," I nod, grateful to have something other than my pajamas and dress. "Thank you for being to generous."
Susan shrugs. "It's not a problem, it's a pleasure to be able to help you too." I look at her for a moment, my heart filled with adoration.
