We head back up to the house and share a nice meal with Susan, burgers and hotdogs from the grill. Grayson tells everyone the plan we have for tonight and Ken tells Susan that they should try it sometime, but Susan rolls her eyes above a wide smile.
Each meal that we have shared together has made us closer, and with how much I missed them, I feel almost as if they are family. I am certain that this is what family meals are supposed to feel like.
Grayson and I help clean up before we set off to the overlook. Grayson packs a bag with sheets, extra blankets, and pillows. We carry the rest in our arms. It's a difficult ride up to the top, but we make it eventually.
I set up the bed while Grayson sets up a mesh fly sheet over the open entrance of the shed.
I also hang up twinkle lights around the inside of the shed, giving us some soft light. I'm so busy with my own doings that I haven't realized that Grayson is done with the fly sheet. I hold the sheets out to the side for a moment and peek my head out.
My face is met with the warmth of a growing fire. I step out of the shed and watch as he sets up large rocks around the slowly brewing fire. He also sets up an old log a few feet back from the fire.
He is startled when he finally sees me, but laughs off his spook. He takes a seat on the log, resting his elbows on his knees. "I didn't know you were done yet," He laughs, patting the spot beside him.
I sit beside him and cross my arms on the top of my knees. All the worries that plagued me now settle and I am surrounded by a serene calmness.
Letting out a sigh, I rest my head on Grayson's shoulder. Welcoming me, he rests his head on mine. His hand frees itself and rests on the top of his thigh, palm up. I sink my hand into his and draw circles over his knuckles.
Grayson raises his head from mine, from the corner of my eye I see him looking down on my. I raise my head and look back. His eyes are quick, taking in as much of my face as he can. The corner of his lip threatens to raise as I smile at him.
My eyebrows lift a bit as my gaze settles onto his eyes. I hold a little tighter to his hand, and he squeezes back. The gesture is small, but it brings me comfort. Enough comfort that I lean forward into him and kiss his lips.
He kisses me back, inhaling as his free hand cups my cheek, his thumb rubbing lightly over my jaw and the area below my chin. My shoulders loosen as I deepen the kiss, relaxing into a rhythm.
His mouth melts into mine and the taste of him floods my senses. With our lips still connected, his hand slides gently to the nape of my neck. His fingers intertwine with my hair, his fist is full when he pulls back gently. A small gasp leaves my lips as my head is propped backward, I smile up at the sky as he kisses my jaw.
His tongue teases my skin as he bites and sucks his way to my neck. I let out a sigh as my eyes fall shut. My breathes reach deeper into my lungs. His hand loosens up from my hair, resting lightly against my skin.
His lips return to my lips for a moment before they part from mine again. I rest my forehead against his, smiling with eyes loosely shut. When I raise my head to look at him J take my hands and flatten them against the sides of his head. Pushing his hair from his face, his eyes melt into mine.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I ask, my brows furrow, but my smile continues to grow. "You've never looked at me like that before." I run my fingers through his hair again.
"Or maybe," His hands wrap around my wrists gently, keeping them at his cheeks. "I've always looked at you like this way, just never when you were looking." Without much effort, he lifts my left hand. With his eyes still locked to mine, he kisses the palm of my hand.
