They told me I was weird.
What was acceptable in Kindergarten wasn't in the first grade. I had licked a girl as appreciation for sharing her red marker when I lost mine. She took it back. It was gross, she had told me as she rubbed her cheek with her hands.
I was dubbed the 'Weird Girl' in my grade, ones above us calling 'Cat Girl'. I didn't mind the latter until I found out it was just another variation of Weird Girl. Apparently, the teachers were hard of hearing. They didn't hear the taunting and teasing. "Just kids being kids," they told each other, waving it off as if it were some annoying fly that would buzz away with time. That didn't happen.
