They told me they were experts, but I never believed them. I thought that just about everything they said was a lie, or fake.
Turns out, they were right about one thing. Just one miniscule thing, but it was the thing to change my life.
I was ready to leave my life for good. Not end it, not run away, but leave it. Leave it for somewhere far away, as an adult.
That one thing still stopped me.
That one thing had flowing, shiny blonde hair, something I just wanted to feel and play with.
That one thing had flashy, crystal-clear blue eyes, like the perfect summer vacation at the lake house. The place I had felt nothing and everything; peace.
That one thing had large hands, one finger home to a class ring.
Round and around and around. Everytime I saw it.
Two fingers fixed on that ring, spinning it, so hypnotically. It flashed in the light during the afternoon, and I wanted to touch it.
But I mustn't.
It was time to leave my life. Why couldn't I?
That one reason was a man.
