Sophia had fallen asleep at her desk again, working on a report for Alex. She never got any sleep anymore. For the past couple of weeks she had only gotten a few hours in all.
McKenzie walked past slowly, pulling a suitcase behind her. She sighed, putting a blanket over her sleeping friend.
"I'm sorry... Saphie" she mumbled, using her childhood nicknamed. McKenzie wiped the tears off her face and for a second she looked regretful but turned around quickly and walked out of their crappy apartment.
The taxi driver pulled up just in time, right as McKenzie walked out of the building. She hopped in without looking back.
"Where to, ma'am?" He asked calmly. She was glad he didn't press her or ask questions about why there were tear stains on her face, and he didn't seem like the one to chat.
"The airport, please." She said. He nodded in response. The ride was silent, she found solace in that. It, however, wasn't quick because there was no airport in Froid, Montana, so they had to drive to the one Culbertson. This was unusual. Most drives in Froid were quick because it was a small town, of about 200 people, and there was barely any traffic.
"Thank you, sir." She said as she hopped out of the car and handed him the amount due for the drive.
The airport was jam packed when McKenzie arrived. She also was practically starving because she had gotten out of the apartment as quick as possible. She hadn't eaten anything. And she'd have to wait longer because she had to get through security first.
"For the love of chickens McKenzie, you can't feed yourself. This is why you had a roommate." She mumbled, quietly scolding herself.
She stood, waiting in the security line for what seemed like hours. She got in with no trouble grabbed, some donuts from Dunkin' Donuts -- only the best -- and some coffee so she would have something for the plane and while she was waiting to board.
When the voice finally rang over the speaker system that it was time for the premium members to board, McKenzie stood up. Morgan had bought the plane tickets and she was premium member since she traveled all over the world for her shows and movies.
The plane ride was comfortable, for the most part McKenzie slept while listening to Nirvana, the Gorillaz, Paramore, Coldplay, Biggie, and various country songs from the time when country wasn't bad. Morgan and Sophia had always teased McKenzie about her strange taste in music.
There wasn't really a genre to put it in, they said. As long as McKenzie likes it its good, they said. To which McKenzie would reply that all of the groups were alternative rock, except for Biggie who was hip hop and the country songs. And even then, Gorillaz had a bit of hip hop to tie Biggie in.
McKenzie smiled about the times in which Morgan would come in angrily to her room to jokingly scream at her to turn it down while Sophia would start cranking up instrumental music to cover up McKenzie's favorite song, Teenage Spirit by Nirvana. It was like a constant, raging war about what music could be played in the apartment.
Then at the thought of war, McKenzie's good memories starting looking sour. Not only that but she was now in a fight with Sophia.
When the plane landed, McKenzie got up drowsily. She had been aroused from her nap by a flight attendant saying,
"Ma'am, please wake up. We are close to our destination and you should get ready to get out." She said with that sickeningly sweet fake smile. At least, that's what Morgan would say about those smiles.
"Mackyyy!" A voice sang before she could run away. She was attacked with a bear hug from her super-star friend with security running after and people taking pictures yelling,
"MORGAN!!! I LOVE YOUUUUUU!!!"
"Mor?" McKenzie asked confused while she hugged her best and, considering the circumstances, only friend back. "I thought you had something going on so you would meet me at your house."
"Nonsense, you think I would just let you come here all alone? That was just a cover-up. Plus, my security probably wouldn't let you into my house even if I told them you were coming by. They're soooooooo uptight." She said. McKenzie smiled, realizing how much she missed Morgan's bubbly personality."Come on, let's go." She said. "Come on boys!" She said flicking her finger to tell them to follow her. The heaving men sighed and stood up trying to regain their dignity after running after a famous actress in stilettos.
However, little did they know, Morgan was the queen of Cross Country and Track and Field. And when she was at home, to train herself, Morgan would run in anything and on anything. From running on Vaseline to running in wedges to running in wedges on Vaseline, Morgan did it all. She also did swim team so her stamina was off the charts. McKenzie and Sophia would go on mile long runs with her and she wouldn't break a sweat while McKenzie and Sophia could barely breathe and were drenched in sweat.
"The limo is already here." Morgan told McKenzie as they walked out of the airport. Wherever Morgan walked, it was like the red sea just parted. It was great. As was the limo. There were countless candy jars full of chocolate, and of course Morgan's favorite, sour candy.
"Welcome to my house!" Morgan sized as they drove into a parking. Yes, a parking lot for Morgan's L.A. mansion.
"Make yourself at home!"
