BEEP BEEP. What is that annoying noise? Someone stop it. Reluctantly I opened my eyes and a small clock or a really big watch staring right back at me. It had big brown doll eyes and two hands clapping trying to wake me up. Out of pure blissful irritation I rolled out of my bed and threw the stupid clock or watch across the room and watched it break into very tiny pieces.
Cleaning up the mess I made I dragged my stubborn feet to the bathroom. I looked into the mirror and saw Medusa gaping right back at me. I screamed and ran right out of the bathroom. And then it hit me. It wasn't Medusa; it was me. That messed up chocolate-coloured hair wasn't actually snakes but my knotted up hair. The red mark across the "face" wasn't blood but some ruined makeup stuff. God, I am such a mess. Walking back into the bathroom my mind reminisced about my home. I took it for granted. Having shiny smooth hair and a pretty face always without much girly drama.
Still grumbling about how much being a human sucked I freshened up and walked towards the closet in a cute pink fluffy bathrobe. I picked up a black full sleeves t-shirt with some logo on it and paired it with some blue jeans. Most of the shoes looked uncomfortable with long pointy heels so I decided to wear some white sneakers instead. Tying up my hair into a high ponytail I felt my stomach grumble.
Locking the main door I skipped my into the street while I searched my phone for some stupid 'Maps' app. God, phones were not this complicated in my time. Finally opening the navigation app, I looked up for my school. Rosewood High School. It was about a 15-minute walk from home along a Starbucks on the way. Sighing and whining I started walking in the direction of the one place I dreaded the most. Even as a human. High School.
I entered the enormous school gate with a Vanilla Frappuccino in my hand. You know when you watch a high school movie about how everyone stares at you when you enter the premises? That was exactly what was happening right now. The teenagers were're scattered around the lobby in groups. The one in the furthest corner we're wearing dark clothes, extreme makeup and had a lot of piercings and had those rebellious looks on their faces.
The other group was near the entrance with the school jacket and a football in their hands. The typical football jerks. Trevor Reed was supposed to be one of them. But how was I even supposed to identify him?
The dolled-up girls near the reception scanned me from my head to toe, judging my outfit and snickering about something amongst themselves. Frankly, I hate them already. My train of thoughts was suddenly brought to a halt when the receptionist called out my name. I skipped over to her.
"Are you Scarlett Rose?" She asked me in the most demanding and threatening voice I've ever heard. She was a petite lady with a small stature and a really pretty face. She raised her eyebrow in frustration with a look of irritation on her face. I nodded my head up and down vigorously as the response to her question.
"You're expected in the Front Office. First door on the right.", she informed me and went back to do whatever she was doing.I knocked and opened the door of the Front Office. A man in his late thirties or early forties looked up and gave me a warm smile. He gestured me to come in. I hesitated for a moment and entered the room.
" I am assuming that you are Scarlett Rose?" He asked me in a polite tone.
"Um yeah, I am" I answered back with a small smile of my lips.
" Hi. Welcome to Rosewood High. I am Abraham Phillips, the P.A. to the principal of this school. Since it's your first day here, Elizabeth Taylor has been assigned to show you around. Here's your timetable. You may sit and wait for Elizabeth.", he informed me while handing me a slip of paper with my time table printed on it.
I sat on the leather couch near the wall and put my headphones on and put a Spotify playlist on shuffle. I looked around the room. It was almost peachish, just like the rest of the school. There were a few working tables with computers mounted on each of them. The walls were covered in abstract paintings and bulletin boards with a lot of papers pinned on them.
Just then a small redhead entered the room and walked over to Mr Phillips, and he pointed towards me. As a reflex action, I stood up. That must be Elizabeth.
She walked towards me and introduced herself and I did the same. She grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room whilst saying goodbye to Mr Philips while he chuckled.
As Elizabeth was showing me around the school she told me about the typical high school cliques I noticed in the lobby.
"Show me your timetable?" She asked in a shrill yet sweet voice. Involuntarily I handed over the slip of paper to her and she screeched again. "We have homeroom and recess together. Oh my God." The innocent look of her face made me melt and smile in response.Just then a voice came from behind, "Hey pretty lady." We turned around to see who it was. A really tall guy dressed in blue jeans and a black shirt with dishevelled hair and a bag slung around his shoulder.
He was completely tan and was kind of cute.
"Shut up Ryan." Elizabeth exclaimed while hitting the guy on his head with a book, the turned towards me and said " This is Ryan my goofball dumb best friend. Ryan, this is Scarlett Rose and she just joined our school." Ryan extended his hand towards me and I shook his hand nervously while he smirked. "You know the school was lacking an angel like you" Ryan winked.
Did he know? It's not possible. I acted as humanly as I could. How could he? Was my cover blown? How did he know? A million thoughts ran through my head.
"Are you okay Scarlett? You look like you've just seen a ghost." Elizabeth asked me while touching my forehead as if making sure I wasn't suffering from fever.
Just then the bell rang and I gave Elizabeth a half-smile and she engulfed me in a tight hug. So tight I couldn't even breathe. I hugged her back weakly. "You have Heath Education in the first period. Come on I will drop you off. And Listen? I'll meet you in the cafeteria during recess. Okay?" Elizabeth said enthusiastically. I nodded in agreement.
She dropped me off in front of a huge classroom and I entered hesitantly. The classroom was almost full and the children were sitting in groups, gossiping loudly.
I noticed an empty seat in the fifth-row beside. I hopped over to the seat and settled down. "Hi. I am Scarlett Rose." I said cheerfully. "Trevor. Trevor Reed.", the guy grumbled.
Okay, so he was the newest shapeshifter. He was really tall. He had blonde hair and bulging muscles. He was extremely fair with a diamond cutting jawline and ocean blue eyes. Trevor Reed was drop-dead gorgeous.Just then a small man with a balding head wearing A white striped shirt and suspended grey trousers walked in.
" I am William Vandersmith, your Health-Ed teacher for this session. You may call me Mr Vandersmith. I hope you are sitting on your seats willingly because these seats are going to be permanent and the person on your side is going to be your project partner all semester long." He informed us this with an evil grin on his face. The room was filled with gasps and disappointed sighs. But Trevor Reed was my partner. This is going to be fun.
