"missing"

"i'm afraid there is still no word on romero, but we'll keep looking." credence placed his hand on my shoulder with empathy.

a year had passed since i had last heard of my brother, i couldn't stand the thought that maybe he wasn't still out there. maybe he had left to the angels.

the shadow world had stopped looking for him, but that didn't mean the mundane world was ready to give up.

i was grateful for the missing persons groups i could attend, people who were willing to help with romero always welcomed me with open arms.

a nod seemed to be the most common thing i let people see me do nowadays. "thank you for your help, it is very much appreciated."

i didn't have to go very far to find help, living in the middle of new york really did have its perks, but it also made it easy for people to follow me so i had to be on high alert.

"who's romero?" a flash of ginger swept over my sight as clary fairchild ran in front of me, stopping me from walking along the sidewalk.

angrily, i pushed past her. "you had no right to follow me, romero is none of your business."

clary had clearly been following me, but what i didn't understand was why. was i a mind puzzling game to her? someone to figure out?

"i know, i'm sorry, but i can't un-hear the things i heard." clary sympathised. "look, my mom went missing, it was hard for me too. when every time i thought i was close to finding her, it was another dead end."

heavy footsteps snapping twigs resonated how my mind broke in those very few seconds she had decided to open her mouth, and try to compare herself to me.

"you know nothing, clary fairchild. when your mother went missing, you dragged the whole institute and the clave into your 'dead ends'. i don't have that kind of support here, and even if i did, i wouldn't be so reckless to drag warriors into a stupid battle between valentine. everyone knew jocelyn was always with valentine, there were never dead ends, just misconceptions. misconceptions that you dramatised until you managed to consume everyone with your never ending 'bad life'. romero is none of your business, now leave him and me alone, neither of us want round two of your shenanigans."

"my mother died recently." was all clary had to say.

i took a deep breath, "everyone suffers losses, and i'm truly sorry for yours. but instead of complaining about it, be grateful you got the time you had with her. and be grateful you have family like jace, and even the lightwood's."
