When Vanessa, Marcie and Paige had reached the main hall, they were all chatting away. Luckily for Vanessa, they weren’t talking about pigs. There was a massive queue outside the hall entrance. People were moving really slowly. By the time the three reached the lady at the door, they realised what all the fuss was about. They wanted all the new children to be present and accounted for, so they had a really big list of all the name, ticking them off as they go.

“Names please?” the lady with a badge saying Jessica on said.

“Vanessa Blue, Victoria Portman, and Paige Nickleson,” said Marcie.

“Okay, please make your way to your seats they should be labelled with your room number. Don’t sit anywhere else,” said Jessica. The three girls started walking through the doorway. “Don’t forget, alphabetical order!” Jessica shouted after them.

“Yeah, yeah. Okay, whatever,” said Vanessa back to Jessica. Because Vanessa, Marcie and Paige were on the top floor, and they tried to take as long as possible without going over the fifteen minute rule, they were the last ones in. Jessica ran up to the woman at the stage and whispered to the woman at the stand. The big woman nodded and gestured for Jessica to go away. Jessica mumbled a quick “Yes Miss”. Even the staffs were treated like students.

The hall was quite an old style, with big arched windows on the side walls. The panes were painted crystal white, whereas the wall was fading from white to a sickly yellow. At the front of the hall, was a stage with a stand on. It had a little microphone on it, and a few papers. The big woman standing at the stand wore a light turquoise shirt. She had long trousers on, that were black. She looked like she was on stilts. Her purple/red high heels were beyond high. They were huge. Her face had an evil look to it. She wore no lipstick, but a thin layer of lip balm that was slightly tinted. Everything about her reminded Vanessa about the school itself. Tall and proud, yet slightly scary and old. The big woman’s mouth opened.

“Good morning, everyone. First off I would like to say how glad I am to be here, to take the time as a head mistress to talk to you. I must congratulate your parents or carers on choosing this school this boarding school above all other schools, I assure you, they won’t be disappointed. You all seem like really lovely individuals, I wish had the time to meet you all personally. But unfortunately there are too many of you, so I cannot, but as I make my way around the building, I’m sure I can pick up names and watch out for the naughty ones. Anyhow, I see that you’ve all made your way to your rooms carefully and considerably, meeting your room mates along the way!-” the head mistress was cut off by a girl bursting into the hall in tears. She ran up to the head mistress and said,

“The boys! They’re chasing me! They’re gonna eat me! HELP!” she screamed. The air was filled with laughter. Paige almost wet herself laughing, whilst Marcie just rolled her eyes and looked at Vanessa.

“Blue, she’s a bit weird, if you haven’t noticed. I didn’t know her until today, but she seems... Crazy,” Marcie said to Vanessa. Vanessa looked at the mess on the floor, mascara run down her face, giving her panda eyes, crying with laughter. Most people stopped laughing now, but Paige sat on her chair, still giggling away. She got a lot of looks of annoyance from people all around the hall. Suddenly, four boys emerged from the hall door, laughing and panting. On the sight of the head mistress’ red face, they apologised for the interruption. The girl they were chasing threw up all over the head’s shoes. She looked like she was going to explode.

“My office, NOW!” she screamed.

“I don’t know where it is...” said the girl.

“FOLLOW THEM THEN!” the girl sobbed and followed the boys to the lift. Instantly, after the lift door closed, a member of the cleaning staff came to clean the head’s shoes. As she was scrubbing away, all the students had fallen silent as they had witnessed the true temper of the head mistress.

“As you have probably established, I have a very short fuse. You shall call me Miss Nayde, as I am your head mistress. All I wanted to say in this assembly is that your timetables will start on Wednesday. Today is Monday. So if you lot can work things out, you have a free day tomorrow. I shall be expecting you to be finding where all your classes are, so you will not be late. Attendance is very important here, as we do not have any time to waste. Your timetables can be picked up at the reception today, or tomorrow. Thank you and goodbye,” and with that, Miss Nayde dismissed the students. Because Vanessa, Marcie and Paige were the last ones in, they were the first ones out. So they had just met their head teacher. Scary, just as much as they are stereotyped to be. But there was something about this teacher that was strange. Vanessa’s suspicions walked alongside her. She knew that from first sight there was something different about that teacher. Definitely something different...

Paige sat on her bed, on her laptop. She was watching The Muppets.

“I love Miss Piggy. Pigs are cool,” aid Paige. At the thought of pigs, Vanessa ran over to Paige, and closed the laptop.

“Who wants to play...? Uh... Hide and seek?” Vanessa tried, hopefully. Marcie and Paige exchanged looks, and then, Paige said,

            “I don’t mind,”

“I am secretly in love with that game,” said Marcie. “Don’t tell anyone though,” and she put an index finger to her closed lips.

“So, are we in?” asked Vanessa, not intending for this to happen at all. Paige and Marcie nodded.

“We have to decide who’s it. Eenie meenie miney moe, catch a tiger by the toe, if it hollers let it go, eenie meenie miney moe. Blue, you’re it!” said Marcie. Vanessa had only just realised how childish the dark and mysterious girl was.

“Okay, you can only hide on this floor. We have a mini lounge thing, you can hide in there-” Vanessa was cut off by Marcie saying,

“Yeah, yeah. C’mon Paige, let’s go!” Extremely childish. Vanessa had no idea how long to count for, so she chose 30.

When she had finished counting, she found herself laughing out loud to herself, at how stupid she was for avoiding pigs, and now playing hide and seek. She opened the door, stopped herself from saying ‘ready or not, here I come’, and walked into the lounge. Suddenly, she started giggling and darting around from chair to sofa, in search of her ‘lost’ roomies. She spun and hit a really tall person. A vase of flowers fell to the floor. The glass shattered at contact. Marcie and Paige revealed themselves, and stared at the tall figure. Vanessa was sure she heard Marcie curse under her breath. Vanessa’s eyes followed the black trousers up to a light turquoise shirt, to a really red faced Miss Nayde. Oops. Should’ve faced Miss Piggy.
