Episode Two

"Last episode, the contestants had a steep paw-race up a hill after teams were decided, though the teams were revealed after. Yarrowstream came in last and lost for his team, and Volefang and Foxclaw were tied on votes. They had to guess which paw the pebble was under. Foxclaw guessed wrong. As a result, he was eliminated. Leaping Mice- Needlepool, Jaywhisker, Volefang, Liontail, and Yarrowstream

Crouching Voles- Blackfox, Spiritflight, Haynose, Seedfeather, Alderseed, and Poolwhisper

---Crouching Voles---

Spiritflight and Poolwhisper were mewing in hushed voices on one side of the den the team had to share. Seedfeather crouched at the entrance, watching the rest of the team sleep with an unreadable expression in her eyes.

Blackfox woke and stretched with a yawn before padding to join Spiritflight and Poolwhisper. Haynose and Alderseed were the only two that remained asleep, and Seedfeather let out a purr of amusement when she saw how close Alderseed and Haynose were.

Poolwhisper padded up to Seedfeather. "What do you say we do if we lose? Who goes?"

Seedfeather glanced at him. "I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking maybe Haynose."

"Why her?" Poolwhisper asked, curious. Then he looked at the two sleeping cats. He purred loudly. "Got it."

He padded away to tell Spiritflight and Blackfox.

---Leaping Mice---

Volefang leaped again, once more missing the bracken.

"Mouse dung! This is what I get for not practicing land hunting."

Jaywhisker and Yarrowstream both let out sympathetic mews. "I could teach you," suggested Yarrowstream.

Volefang blinked gratefully at him. "Thanks."

Meanwhile, Liontail and Needlepool were watching with eyes narrowed from a distance. Needlepool growled, "Volefang can't hunt on land? She must be one of those river-cats in LeafClan, barely more than an apprentice."

Liontail shot a sharp glance at him. "I was literally just made a warrior this past moon. Volefang was made a warrior at least two moons before me."

Jaywhisker walked up to them, leaving Volefang and Yarrowstream alone. "What are you talking about?" she mewed.

"Nothing," snapped Liontail, flicking his ear.

"Still hostile, eh?"

"Challenge time!" yowled Star.

Star waited until all of the cats had gathered around her on the banks of a wide river.

"Today's challenge is fishing," she meowed when the last cats had arrived. "You will have one hour to catch as many as you can. The team with the most fish wins. Any questions?"

"Do the cats with no knowledge have to do this?" Liontail whined.

"Like you? Yes. One hour begins now." Star padded away to watch.

---Leaping Mice---

Liontail lashed his tail and peered into the water where he stood, not watching his shadow. Volefang mewed in amusement and swam across the water to try her luck. Sure enough, within a few seconds, she'd caught a plump trout.
