Chapter Six | WANNA PLAY A GAME WITH OUR TONGUES?

The Cabin was not what I had in mind.

Almost a few hours later we had arrived and I followed after Milo hesitantly, gawking at the far end of a long gravelled driveway which was surrounded by well manicured, green land; the chalet-style cabin nestled in a a dark pocket of light.

In silence I strolled behind Milo, chewing my bottom lip nervously, closely followed by Milo's friend who had so kindly picked us up from the airport. It was difficult to even imagine how he could have come to become friends with someone as sweet and genuine as Zachari Taeyun.

He was cute, somewhere around our age and apparently, as he described himself — as single as a pringle. A saying which had never necessarily made sense to me. Zachari occupied the Cabin on behalf of Milo and led a seemingly depressing life, sitting behind computer screens and the latest technology. He was a self-proclaimed hacker and software engineer. It baffled me that he was able to even access Google where WiFi and technological resources were mostly intercepted.

Staying in such isolated environments was meant to relieve one of their daily responsibilities, societal urges and crazy whims, except he loved it and made it known as we entered the threshold, trying to digest our current surroundings. I, of course was surprised and couldn't quite hide my awe as my wide eyes took everything in.

Rather than a cute, cottage like feel, the cabin harboured a stripped down vibe of the safe-house and had a so much more satisfying interior to look at, in comparison to the way it stood tall and proudly, among vegetation and abstract nature on the exterior.

The vast and stunning sitting space in front of me was adorned with raised Maryland style brass door knobs, plaques, and hinges. On the inside wall facing north, the furnace had a towering pinewood fireplace with twisted slats in opposition to a circular mirror sustaining a slender canopy.

"Alright dude," Zachari piped up a prolonged moment later, disturbing my observation. "I'm going to go out for a while, you both can settle in. I'm sure you need your space."

His half-moon eyes flickered between Milo and I. He looked suspicious and genuinely intrigued.

"There'll be no need for you to leave." Milo sighed, casually settling onto a leather couch, immediately settling in as he lifted his legs up. "We don't mind."

"Adeline, you alright with adjusting to me being here?" Zachari prompted curiously.

"You're Milo's friend, he said we don't mind. You technically live here so any objection from me is trivial and baseless especially when I don't know you." I said with a weak shrug.

Maybe a third party was exactly what Milo and I needed in between us so I could avoid making a fool of myself and having to deal with whatever was going on. It still didn't make sense to me.
