Our faces were inches apart. She was moving forward slowly. I stood there, staring at her. Somehow I had lost the control over my body. The distance between us was shortening, I could hear her heartbeat, the warmness radiating from her body. Her face seemed more beautiful from the close range. Her eyes were so enchanting and the little kohl that she used was just blowing me away. Her lips touched mine and a wave of pleasure ran through my body.
The vision kept running in my mind. It had been two days since our intimate moment. We had ceased all our conversation since then. Somehow we felt awkward in front of each other. No more messages, no sharing of seats and no more eye contacts. A kiss had just destroyed our friendship. Without Tanya, my life had just turned back to normal. The boring and monotonous normal.
I was tired of her ignoring. Every time I approached her, she pushed me away. 'Two can play this game' I cringed and thus stated our bitter war of ego.
The school was going painfully slow. At least people were civil enough. Since my legendary tussle with Tanya, I used sit alone in a pleasing fairer sex dominated class. With passing of time, I no longer felt alienated. Today wasn't different. I picked my usual seat near the window. I loved this spot. The warmth of sunshine, the chirping of sparrows and the cool gusts of wind.
"Hi, Armaan" said a feminine voice. I looked back and smiled. Samyra was standing behind me. After my turmoil with Tanya, I looked for new friends and surprisingly I didn't found any. My thoughts were too focused on Tanya that I started to see her in other people.' How my life revolved around her' I wondered.
Samyra was one of few people who were at least fun to speak. Samyra, born with a silver spoon and hordes of butlers, was I think perhaps the second most beautiful girl on campus, after Tanya of course. Brown eyes, black hair and the most sarcastically arrogant personality that I have ever encountered used to sit behind me. I could tell that she wasn't very fond of Tanya but why should I care about that. With super intelligence, she was class favourite.
" May I sit" she asked breaking my line of thoughts. " Why not" I smiled. Who wouldn't like to sit with a pretty girl. We soon lost ourselves in most 'comical' conversation and gossip. From the relationship of football captain to upcoming swimming competitions. The new coffee shop to the leading actress' wardrobe malfunction. I never ceased to fake my smile to the frivolous conversation, at least it was a good time pass. I discretely looked at Tanya, she was looking at us. Her face red, she was clearly fuming. I gave a fake laugh to Samyra and her face turned a shades darker.' Jealousy makes her look damn cute' I thought but I didn't knew why I was thinking about her.
The bell rang and the mathematics teacher strode in. Samyra picked her psychology books and said a goodbye before she rushed out. We had mathematics as an elective subject with psychology with their periods coinciding. You have to imagine the maths teacher as a stout man in his early fifties, with a most peculiar military cut styled brown hairs due to excessive use of hair cloud. His double chin covered with a small beard and yellow teeth giving him a close resemblance to an old goat. Incontestable to physics professor, he wore his loose pants very low on the chest. Boasting a grandfatherly smile, he was quite devious and egoistic. He strode in ten minutes late with a persona of ownership. He picked up a chalk and was starting to write when he stopped and looked at us for a moment, like he was scanning us for any chances of giving punishment. He wrote the name of the chapter ' Introduction to differentiation' and then wrote five questions underneath it. "You have twenty minutes to solve" he chipped in and sat on the teacher's chair with a loud thud.
I frowned at the problems. They were easy but we hadn't covered the requisite potions in the syllabus. I looked around and saw most of the people sitting idly but much to my anticipation Tanya was scribbling on her notebook. I smiled at her and started to solve the first question. Twenty minutes and many tangential equations later, the maths teacher called the class to attention. " Such a idiot class, didn't even try" he sneered. "Awasthi, how many did you attempted and completed" he asked in a mocking voice. " All sir" I replied meekly. " Good, so some aren't that big idiots. Sehgal, how many?" "Two sir" she replied, her voice was weak and terrified.
The maths professor stroked his beard and sneered at her " An idiot. I have heard from other teachers that you are the best student in the class. Such a shame that are standards are falling. With this rate, perhaps McDonalds will be the best employer for you. At least I hope you can count the number of buns in a burger" he said mocking her. The whole class burst into laughter but I was fuming. 'How dare he'. He also noticed that I wasn't laughing and he probably to extended his roasting session turned his ante toward me. " I thought I had a good sense of humour , but great Armaan Awasthi differs from that notion I see". The class was laughing but the laughter was dying down. I stood up, anger rampaging inside me, "With due respect Sir, I am not a big fan of roasting. You are sorely a very good comedian but I don't think mocking is my genre. We wasted ten minutes but I must commend you though, you expressions were beyond Hollywood level, even Leonardo Dicaprio will be proud. As for employment scenarios, Ms. Sehgal has a good chance of getting into McDonalds as a CEO or owner of the company" I retorted. The room was silent and the professor's face was blank. Before he could retort, the bell rang and he simply left the room. Wolf whistles went in the room. Everyone was laughing at him and congratulating me for standing to him. I tuned out the noise and looked at Tanya. She was looking at me with a confused expression but as she Saab my face, she quickly got up and left for the chemistry lab. I signed. I looked at the door and saw Samyra coming in with a big smile. She entered the room and chirped brightly "Trip to Taj Mahal after Mid terminals". The class broke into applause and she winked at me. My body gave an involuntary shudder.
