I was shocked, the day went by rather fast. Before I knew it, I was waiting for Finley by his locker carrying my backpack. He said he would be a few minutes because he had to talk to a teacher. I didn’t mind waiting, though. I thought about all the fun things we could do, but I had one idea in mind. I brought one of my favorite Disney movies, Lilo and Stitch, which I got from one of the local video stores.I thought it was really good because it was so realistic. Lilo’s older sister dates someone who she’s known for a while, and he doesn’t act like the other male characters in other Disney movies. She’s real too. She actually looks like a real human female, and she’s not incredibly beautiful like the rest of them. Sure, she’s pretty, but she’s realistic, too. More Disney movies should be like that. Lilo was one of my favorite Disney characters because she’s also really realistic. She’s kind of chubby, and she’s also kind of dark, personality wise. I like that. It’s more real.
“Hey Charlie, you there?” a familiar voice called out. I was so unfocused that I jumped. It was kind of embarrassing, to say the least. It turned out that the familiar voice was Finley.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you” he said, laughing.
“No, it’s fine. I wasn’t paying attention. You ready to go?” I asked him.
“Yeah,” he said as he led the way to his car.
His car was a Toyota Camry. It was blue. I found it kind of interesting, though. His car matched his eye color. I wondered if he purposely did that.
“You know your eyes and car’s color match, right?” I found myself asking him suddenly.
“Yeah. I didn’t think anyone would have noticed,” he said, smiling as he got into the car.
I suddenly felt more important. I noticed something no one else noticed.
I got into the car. It was fairly clean, except for the fact there was papers on the seat. I moved them off the seat.
“Sorry about that,” he said, taking them and putting them in the back seat.
“It’s fine,” I replied.
His house was only about 5 minutes away. It was a fairly quick ride. He lived in a nicer neighborhood, but his house was one of the few that was one story. He pulled into the driveway, and we both got out. It was nice not having someone greeting us while we got out of the car. I sighed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing,” I quickly said back.
The inside of house was fairly messy. There was papers and clothing littering the living room floor, and the table in the dining room had stuff all over it.
“Fuck. I thought my mom said she was going to clean the house,” he said, apologizing afterwards.
“I don’t mind,” I said, trying to smile.
To be honest, I didn’t really care. My parent’s house was fairly messy, too, but that might’ve just been because we just moved here. It was surprising. We’ve lived in Australia for a month already. Time flies by so quickly.
He led me down a hallway to a door at the end on the left. I assumed it was his room because it was really clean and it had a lot of photos hanging on the walls. Most of them were nature photos, but he also had a few pictures of people who I assumed were his family
“Did you take these yourself? I asked, looking at a photo of a tree in the autumn.
“Yes. I want to take a class on photography. I haven’t gotten around to it though,” he explained.
“Oh, you don’t need to take a class in it. You’re good at it enough already,” I admitted.
“Aw, thanks. That’s really sweet of you,” he said beaming. “Anyway, what do you want to do?”
“I brought a movie.”
“What movie?” he got excited.
“Lilo and Stitch!”
“I love that movie!”
We watched the movie laughing through the whole thing. It was really fun seeing it for the first time in years. It made me want to watch Disney movies more often because of the nostalgia. I wanted to do more of this. It was so much fun hanging out with him, even if we just watched movies together. He was so cute when he laughed. I could just fall in love with his laugh. I laughed more than usual throughout the movie, but I have no idea why.
After the movie ended, he said “This was a lot of fun Charlie.”
“It was,” I said smiling. “Can we do it again soon?”
“Sure. I’ll talk to you later.”
I left feeling excited for the next adventure that we would go on. Maybe I did have a chance with him. You can never really know for sure.
