faint crying could be heard when akaashi got close to (y/n)'s room and it pained him to hear the despairing sounds as if it were a knife digging into his heart.

"hey," he said softly, approaching the girl on the bed whose shoulders lightly shook with muffled sobs.

he carefully laid down beside her and she immediately turned to put her arms around him. he reached up to cup her cheek with his hand and gently brushed away the moisture with his thumb.

"why are you crying?" akaashi murmured but only received a shake of her head in reply that inhibited him from inquiring any further.

he pulled her close, feeling how fragile she seemed while the fragrance of her fruit-scented shampoo filled his senses.

"keiji?" (y/n) tilted her head back to gaze up at him, (e/c) orbs still sparkling with the remnants of her tears.

he hummed in response, waiting for what she had to say.

"...you won't forget me...right?"

her words struck a low and painful chord deep in his chest, and he could barely resist the urge to cry himself when he felt the oncoming burn in his eyes.

instead, he grazed his knuckles over her cheek where a stray tear had escaped before pressing a kiss to her forehead.

when he spoke, his voice cracked.

"how could i forget you when you gave me so much to remember?"
