I looked at him with shock in my eyes. "Say that again."

"I was there when your family was murdered."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. There's no way that's true. I remembered everything that happened that night and Alan wasn't a part of it. I jumped off the counter and said," Don't mind me, I'll just be in the corner, having another existential crisis."

"Wait!" Alan ran after me and grabbed my hand, but I smacked it away. He looked at me. Tears filled my eyes , but I held them back. "Explain!" I yelled.

"Amari," he sighed," I can't tell you. At least not yet." I grit my teeth and pounced at him. I tried hitting him, but my efforts were in vain, because he was twice my size. Alan pinned me against the wall.

"Stop it."

"No! Tell me what happened that night! Tell-"

"Amari, stop!"

I stopped struggling and stared into his piercing eyes. "I can't tell you yet. I can't risk losing you again."

He loosened his grip on my wrists and I took the chance. I stepped on his foot with the heel of my shoe, causing him to fall to the ground in pain. I sat on him and effortlessly threw punches. My own fists hurt, but I didn't stop. Casey shot into the room and pulled me off of Alan.

"Let me go! You have no power over me!"

"You sure 'bout that?" Alan was still on the ground, clutching his nose. I pushed Casey away.

"Amari, Alan's right. We can't tell you anything. If we did, not only would we be killed, you would also have to die," Casey said. Alan nodded his head, while holding a napkin to his bleeding nose.

"What-"

Mr.Bob walked into the kitchen. "Why is Alan bleeding?" he asked.

"Cause he's an idiot." Casey laughed at my response while Alan growled at me.

"I didn't know that idiocy caused people to just start spontaneously bleeding from the nose."

"It think it's a new phenomenon."

Mr.Bob examined the three of us as we smiled, hoping that he wouldn't question us even more. "Now I don't believe anything the three of you say, but y'all have to be up early tomorrow, so I suggest to hit the beds." We nodded and Mr.Bob left the room again. We relaxed.

"Now Amari, as all as we're together on this case, you cannot harm Alan." I sighed.

"Are you sure I can't punch him in the face?"

"Yes."

"What if I just break his nose a little?"

Alan laughed. "I think you've already succeeded in doing that." He was still tightly gripping his nose. "You girls go to sleep while I go see Nurse Smith. Amari, you can borrow some of Casey's clothes and sleep there since that's where you slept before you quit." I sighed again.

Casey and Alan talked a bit before Alan left. They seemed close. It made me wonder if they were dating or not. Then again, I don't care.

"The room is the same, go change and sleep. I'm going with Alan. I have something I want to talk about with him," she said. And with that, Casey left me.

They must be dating. There's no way they aren't.

I walked into the bedroom. It looked the same. A thought hit me. Everything was the same. Casey, this room, the base. It's like I never even left. As I was changing, my thoughts deepened. One thing did change though. Alan. I had no idea who he was or how he joined us this organization. "One things for sure. One, he was there when my family died therefore two, he can't be trusted."

"That's two things actually."

As reflex, I picked up the closest thing near me, which was a brush, and threw it towards the door. Casey moved out of the way.

"Chill women, it's just me."

I let out an apologetic sigh. After looking at Casey to make sure she didn't get hurt, I walked to the vanity and started to undo my hair and brush it. Casey stood next to me and started messing with the objects that rested there.

"Speak."

"What?"

"You have something you want to say, I can tell."

She looked at me. "So you really don't like Alan?"

I looked at her, shocked that she knew.

"You said it out loud earlier," she said.

"Gosh, I said my mind again!"

Casey laughed. "You did it a lot when we were younger."

"Shut up," I said, drying. I must have offended Casey in some way because she exploded.

"Alright, what is your problem?! I've been all nice and stuff since I did bring you here, but in return, you've been acting like a complete douchebag towards me!"

I chuckled. "It's only natural. I was brought here against my will and was forced to take a job. And you," I pointed at her," you have never been nice to me or anyone else expect that damn Alan!"

She swatted my hand away and crossed her arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"

I scoffed. "Please, don't play dumb. You're dating Alan!" Casey stared at me for a bit and suddenly burst into laughter.

"You think...Alan and I...are dating?" she asked, in between breathes. I shifted awkwardly and crossed my arms. "Oh, speak of the devil." Alan walked into the room.

"Hey Alan, get this. Amari thinks that we're dating!"

It was Alan's turn to laugh. I stood there with my mouth open, amused with the fact that both of them were laughing at me.

"Is someone jealous?" Alan asked, resting his arm on the top of my head. Urg, short people problems.

"Are you insane or just incredibly annoying?"

"I don't know, probably both."

I sighed. Alan patted my head and said," Don't worry. I'm in love with someone else. A girl I've known since I was a child."

"Oh."

We stared at each other. All of sudden, Casey started clapping.

"Well, I'd love to continue watching the two of you flirt with each other, but Amari and I must be going to sleep."

"We weren't flirting!"

Alan and Casey laughed at my sudden outburst while I stood there feeling stupid. Suddenly, Mr.Bob's assistant was at the door. "What is it?" Alan asked her.

She tried to catch her breathe and then said," Mr.Bob was stabbed, he's dead!"
