I walk through the allies of the city. It's dark, but not too dark, and soothing. Sometimes I just need to get away from the chaos of the world.
Ever since I summoned my spirit animal at my first birthday party, nobody gives me peace. Everyone cooes over me and asks to be my friends.
Then there are the parents who come and ask me to train their children in hopes of them becoming top trainers. I don't even know how to train an infant. I don't know how to train someone at all.
On my first birthday I felt really lonely since my mother had passed away and my father was in the hospital. I was with a few of the other kids but they were all at least five so I was too young in their eyes.
I wanted a friend and so lilac appeared. She is my wolf, my spirt animal. She is more of a best friend though. She is always there for me when I need it and she always obeys when I ask her to go into dormant state.
She is such a blessing to me. I'm 16 now and I still only have one friend, which is lilac. Not even a human but sometimes I think lilac understands me better than any human ever will.
As I walk further into the alley, I call out lilac. It isn't something you have to do aloud. You just think it and ask your animal to come. They will decide if they want to obey or not.
My bond with lilac is very strong and very rare. We can feel each other's emotions and know what the other is thinking, never a word needed, yet I still talk to her.
Lilac appears in a flash of light. She immediately walks to my side and rubs against my leg. I giggle and pat her head. She lets out a low growl of pleasure. One of lilacs favorite things is affection. She can never get enough of it. Nor can she get enough of praise.
"What should we do lilac? Should we just keep walking?" I ask as I squat down to lilac's level. Lilac presses her head into my chest. "I take that as a yes." I stroke her fur and stand up.
Lilac and I are walking when I suddenly hear a voice. "What are you gonna do about it? You can't even call your spirit animal. You are a disgrace."
Lilac growls, obviously angry. I run to where the voice was and turn a corner. I see a boy, a bit older than me, cornered by another boy. He has a giant elk by his side.
"What do you think you're doing kid?" I ask. He turns around and makes eye contact. "Ch-chun miyoung. I am so sorry, is he a friend of y-yours?" The boy stutters.
"It shouldn't matter. Even if he can't call his spirit animal, he is no less of a human. Call your animal away and leave." I demand. He lowers his gaze to stares at the floor.
"What's wrong? Is your animal not obedient?" I ask. "N-no." He replies quietly. "So you were picking on someone to make you forget your own problems?" I press. He nods slowly to verify.
I look at lilac and she dips her head in understanding. She walks up the the elk. The elk immediately lays down and presses it's forehead to lilacs. Lilac is one of the few spirit animals who has a connection with all other spirit animals. She understand them and she is one of the only ones who can talk sense into them. A special wolf indeed.
"Call him in." I tell the boy. He closes his eyes and his elk disappears in a flash of light. "Thank you so much. I promise to never hurt someone again." The boy said and ran off.
"Thank you lilac." I bend down and pet her head. "Th-thank you for helping me." The boy who was cornered said.
"It's fine, what's your name?" I ask. "J-jimin. Park jimin." He responded. "So you can't call your animal?" I ask. He stares at the floor and shakes his head. "No, I don't know what's wrong with me." He replies.
I walk up to him and place a hand on his shoulder. "Nothing is wrong with you jimin. Some people just have difficulties. It's okay." I comfort him.
"Easy for you to say. You called your animal out at the youngest age in decades." He retorted, I scoff. "Yeah, easy for me to say. I only have hundreds if people swarm me everywhere I go and have parents come ask me to train their children. How do you even do that?!" I throw my arms around in frustration.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know." He says. "Nobody ever does." I reply. "So your wolf's name is lilac?" He asked. I smile with pride and nod. Lilac stands on her two back legs and put her front paws on my shoulders before licking me. I chuckle and kiss her forehead before she sits down next to me.
"I wish I could call my animal." He says with envy in his eyes. "What's your animal?" I ask. "A lion." He replies. "That's interesting. Lions have become rare recently." I think out loud. "I don't understand, aren't animals paired with people for a reason? A lion has nothing in common with me." The boy murmered.
"A spirit animal always chooses it's person and it never, I repeat, never, chooses wrong. Every animal chooses each person for a specific reason. Your animal will know everything about you the second you are born. Your spirit animal sees something in you that even you don't see in yourself. It may be why he refused to come out. He feels that you don't treat yourself well enough. He thinks by protesting, he can get somewhere." I explain. "How do you know it's a boy?" He asked.
Lilacs slams her forehead into the wall and I facepalm. "Even a wolf is smarter than me." He grumbles.
"If it was a girl, it would be a lioness." I respond. "Oh." "You really didn't know that?" I ask while holding out my left wrist in lilacs direction. She gets the idea and becomes a tattoo with a flash of light. "No. I am an orphan. My dad died before I was born and my mom died after giving birth to me. I was never taught anything except how to survive." He replied.
I hug the boy and he gasps. "I am so sorry Jimin." I say. He hugs me back. "There is nothing anyone could have done." He responded.
"I KNOW HOW YOU CAN START TO BUILD A BOND WITH YOUR LION!" I suddenly scream. He pulls away from the hug and gives me a puzzled look.
"You have never had anyone to love you like a mother and father should, so you doubt yourself. You never had anyone to tell you how amazing you are and if I'm right, you blame yourself for your mother's death." I say. He nods to confirm my theory.
"Jiminie there is nothing anyone could have done." I say, using his words against him.
"Well I do have some sort of love. Brotherly love." He replied. "I am really close with six other boys. They are all orphans too. I was out walking when this happened." He added.
"Jimin, if you can start to build confidence in yourself and forgive yourself for the death you had no control over, you can start to bond with your lion. It makes since now. Your lion doesn't want to come out because he thinks he is a reminder of something you tried so hard to forget. Your birth." I say with a victorious grin.
He still looks as confused as ever. "You think that if you weren't born, your mom would be alive. Because of that, your self confidence is very low. Your lion obviously understands your emotions so he wants to stay hidden so he can't remind you of your birth, since he came to you at your birth." I explain.
"And how can he understand my emotions when he has never even come out of dormant state?" Jimin retorted. I heave out a sigh before replying.
"You have a lot to learn jiminie."
