Leo's POV

"I'm innocent I tell you, innocent! I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time! I didn't actually beat up the kid! Come on, you've got to believe me!" I say, pleading to the police officer to let me go and not make me have to go to jail. I mean, I am technically a legal adult, as I am 19, so going to jail is a possibility. A possibility I do not want to happen, but a possibility nonetheless. I mean, if I go to jail, who's going to take care of mom and Sophia! Dad left a long time ago, so the two most important women in my life won't have anyone to take care of them and protect them if I'm gone.

"That's what they all say. Get in the car you little delinquent," the officer says, trying to push me into the open door of the police car. I then get an idea. I pretend I'm going to be compliant and get in the car, but I put my feet on the outside of the car and push off, knocking the police officer off of me and taking off running down the nearest alley and turning to run down another crowded city sidewalk.

All of these people make it harder to run, but they also make it harder for the police officer to find me. A lose-win situation in my opinion. Lose because I lose a lot of energy running so fast and having to weave through a ton of people, and win because it makes me harder to find with so many people.

"Get back here!" the officer yells, and I can tell that he's pretty close behind me. After a long while of running and weaving through people, I see a streetlamp pole down the street and I run towards it, swinging around the pole at just the right moment to kick the officer straight in the jaw since he was pretty close behind me. The officer falls to the ground spitting blood, and I have an advantage. Swinging myself around the pole also broke the handcuffs, so I can run without the restraints now.

I continue sprinting, even faster this time, looking back periodically. But while I'm not looking, I run straight into someone and fall onto my butt. I'm about to curse and scream at them for getting in my way, when I look up and see the most beautiful girl I've ever seen staring down at me.

Beautiful blue eyes, long brown hair, and the most beautiful smile you could ever imagine. Well, I think her smile is beautiful. I can't see it, because she's not smiling at me. She's frowning. The sad thing is, she is tattered and dirty, has twigs and leaves in her hair, and is so skinny she looks somewhat starved. She is absolutely stunning though, and I stare at her, eyes wide and mouth open, drooling all over myself. What can I say? I can't help it. She's just so... perfect. Well, perfect if you don't count the leaves and twigs in her hair, and the bruises and scars all over her body that look like whip marks and chain indents. I don't want to ask how that happened, so I stand up and keep running, pushing the girl out of the way in the process.

Oh how I wish I can see that beautiful face again. I think I just fell in love with a girl I only saw for like 30 seconds. I didn't know you could even fall in love that fast. I guess love at first sight really is a thing.

I'm sorry the chapters are short as of now... I'll try harder. It's hard to write two to three thousand word chapters in the beginning of a book. I will try my absolute hardest to make the chapters longer from now on.
