The sound of tyres on gravel filled the enclosed space. I lay in the backseat of the ute, taken away from the only family I knew. I missed them. The roads were dotted with pot holes, and just as I was about to settle to an uneasy sleep, a thundering lurch went throughout the rusty ute. I gave a yelp of worry as I slammed into the door. ''Shut it!'' Growled the farmer, though I could barley understand with the continuous rattle of the engine. I knew there was no point calling for my family, so I settled into an uneasy slumber.

I was woken to... silence. How strange, I thought. The ute had become still. Voices drifted through the confines of the back seat. Excited voices. I was eager to know what was outside. Shaking, I made my way to the door and began to whine. The voices went silent. I could just hear though the grimy window. "Daddy." A little voice asked. "When can we see the puppy?" I didn't know who this was, but I liked them at once. I could just hear the muffled reply when the farmer opened the door. I leaped out and turned to face four humans, joy and excitement shining in their eyes.
