I enter the apartment, "Mom, I'm home!" No response, she must be out doing something. I sigh and pull open the curtains. Grey clouds have filled the sky and thunder is audible in the distance.
I go towards the kitchen and begin making coffee. Just as the coffee pot fills there's a loud knock at the door. I jumped a bit and quickly reached for a knife before going to peek through the peephole.
"Who is it?" I ask.
"Eric open the door!" It's my mom, I put the knife down on the counter and unlocked the door. She quickly opened it shaking out her umbrella and placing it by the door.
"How was whatever you were doing?"
"Work was good, Mr. Grey wasn't there which sucked but it was good."
"Good?" I say questioning my own response.
She rolls her eyes, "Oh shit, Eric I need you to head to the store for a bit."
"Why?"
"I need stuff." She hands me a list of groceries. I nod and grab my umbrella and walk down towards the streets.
"Where are you headed?" I turn and see Lucas headed in my direction.
"The grocery store."
"No need to walk there, here I'll drive you."
"Y-You don't need to do that." I reassure.
"Nonsense, it's the least I can do." I nod and follow him to his Tesla model fucking X. He opens the passenger side door for me and then closes it behind me. He gets in and starts the car.
"So how far away is the store?" I ask trying to start a conversation.
"Not far, you could've walked to it but it would still take a while." I nod and the car ride stays quiet and awkward. "So, you like music?"
"Oh uh, yeah I guess." He smiles and inserts a CD. It's the rapper Cryptful's new album (Go listen to it). "You like him?"
"Yep, his flow is sick."
I cringe, "Aaa, please don't say that ever again."
Lucas lets out an adorable laugh, "Okay, okay." He says, still trying to compose himself. We reach Ralph's™ and exit the car.
"Huh."
"What is it?"
"We didn't have a Ralph's in Florida instead we had a Publix."
"What's a Publix?"
" A grocery store." Lucas nods and we enter the store. I grab a basket and the two of us walk up and down the isles collecting all the items my mom needed. "Okay so next on the list is...oh.."
"What?" Lucas asked grabbing the shopping list from my hand. "Tampons? Are you embarrassed to get these?"
"What?! Psh, no it takes a lot to embarrass me!" I defend, "In fact.." I walked into the feminine hygiene isle and grabbed a box of tampons and put them in the basket. "Bam."
"Impressive." Lucas jokes, "Is that it?"
"Uh," I look down at the list, "Yep."
"Alrighty then, lets go pay for this." We go to a register and begin unloading items. "Here I'll pay." Lucas says beginning to pull his wallet out.
"No way, you drove me here. I'll pay." I say pulling out my wallet and pulling out my debit card. Lucas smirks, putting his wallet back in his pocket.
The two of us carry the bags back to his car and put them in the trunk. We get back into the car and begin driving back to the apartment complex. "What floor do you live on?"
"I live on the top floor."
"Isn't that where the penthouses are?"
"Sure is." Fuck he's rich and hot! I struck gold with this one.
"Can I see it?"
"Of course!" He smiles, I mentally begin cheering. "How about Monday after work?"
"Sure thing Mr. Boss Man." I say winking.
He chuckles, "Whatever." We reach the apartment and we begin unloading all the bags.
We got to the apartment and I knocked on the door. "Mom it's me!" We wait a bit before she opens the door and we walk in.
"Sorry for the intrusion ma'am I was just helping Eric."
"No, no it's fine, the more help the better." She retorts.
Lucas puts the bags on the counter and smiles, "Well I should go back to my penthouse my cat's waiting for me."
"Okay, goodbye Mr. Grey." My mom waves him off.
"Yeah, goodbye Richie Rich." I joke. Lucas lets out a laugh and leaves.
"You two seem close."
"Oh, yeah I mean I guess."
"Don't hide it." She joked, nudging me as she puts away the groceries.
I roll my eyes, "Whatever mom." I laugh and go to my room for the rest of the day.
