it's the first day back at school.
sasha and i are doing pretty good,
though it's only been a couple of weeks.
we walk in the hallway holding hands.
people take notice.
she stops at her locker to get her books.
i lean on the lockers next to hers,
waiting.
that's when i see you down the hall.
you're with danny,
your neighbor.
my best friend.
he's tucking your hair behind your ear.
you're smiling,
like you used to do with me.
i don't realize i'm clenching my jaw until my teeth start to ache.
i tell myself i don't have a right to be upset.
after all,
i know it's my fault
for pushing you away.
