had me at hello

SNOW WAS FALLING FROM the sky for the first time in years. It was a grey blanket covering the skyline of downtown Seattle, and I could faintly see the ruins of Mount Rainier in the distance.
I had decided to scale an old Verizon building this morning, since it was so tall. Climbing was an escape from the life I was living currently.
I sat in an old office chair, wondering how the business people who worked here felt about their everyday lives before the war.
I decided I'd had enough of my depressing thoughts, and walked to a rusty staircase that led up to the roof. The door was already open, letting the chilly air blow straight into my face.
My eyes began to water, and through my tears I saw a person sitting on the ledge. I couldn't suppress my gasp. I wiped my eyes furiously, preparing for the worst. In front of me I saw quite possibly the most gorgeous man I've ever laid eyes on.
"Astrid," he whispered, sounding a bit in awe.
"That's me. Who are you? More importantly, how do you know me?" I asked, my brows furrowed.
"You're the talk of the town. Nobody can get over how well the two brunettes with the weird eyes climb so well. It's hard to miss your shiny black hair on a clear day, you know," he said.
That's another thing that's different nowadays from the past.
A genetic mutation occurred, making everyone in modern day America have brown eyes only.
Green eyes were unheard of, and blue eyes were practically extinct. He had green ones, and I have piercing blue ones. Every time I walk anywhere, I get the weirdest looks. It's pretty funny.
"What's your name?" I inquired, raising my voice over the sharp wind.
"Elias. The one and only," Elias spoke with a confidence that was impenetrable.
Elias, the genius that supposedly led scientists to create a cure for the plague my brother, Sterling, had. That was the word on the streets though, and coming from Elias's introduction, it was true.
"My brother has the plague. I've heard things about you. Do you know about anything about something that could help him?" I pushed out.
Elias looked at me for what felt like an hour. He held my eyes with a fiery passion.
"I do, I'll help you. But I have one condition," Elias told me, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Anything," I breathed out.
"I have to come along,"
