After our visit to Ms. Perky's office, we finally found our lockers and put our things inside. I looked around the hall, spotting Cameron and another guy passing by. I smiled and waved. 'This guy must be the welcoming guy' I thought. "Micheal. I'm supposed to show you around." he said and shook my hand firmly. I looked at him and smiled "Nice to meet you. I'm Rachel. And I already know you Cameron." I said and he grinned shyly "Sorry about this..." he said quietly "Don't worry, it's okay. These things do happen..." I replied trying to be friendly to him. "And this is my best friend, Jake." I said introducing Jake to them. "Nice to meet you guys!" Jake said with a friendly smile shaking their hands. "Sorry guys we should head to class. See ya 'round." I said and waved then went for our first lesson. They smiled walking off in the other direction. "Time for class Jakey..." I said nervously "Everything's gonna be just fine Ray... Don't worry, I'm here for you." he said placing his hand on my shoulder. The bell rang as we reached class. I immediately spotted Kat and waved and she looked at me smiling. I sat next to Jake, behind a guy with a nice outfit. It was obvious just by looking at him that he was a rich, conceited, 'pretty boy'. "Okay then. What did everyone think of The Sun Also Rises?" Mr. Morgan asked. I was just waiting for Kat's response to this question. A girl raised her hand "I loved it. He's so romantic." she stated. "Romantic? Hemingway?! He was an abusive alcoholic misogynist who squandered half his life hanging around Picasso trying to nail his leftovers." Kat said disgusted and everyone but me and Jake rolled their eyes. "As opposed to a bitter self-righteous hag who has no friends?" 'pretty boy' fired causing the room to chuckle. What a jerk!? "Pipe down Chachi." Mr. Morgan yelled sarcastically. "I guess in this society being male and an asshole makes you worthy of our time. What about Sylvia Platt or Charlotte Bronte or Simone de Beauvoir?" Kat went on when suddenly Patrick, Jake's friend, whom Jake and I met earlier at Ms.Perky's office, stepped into the classroom panting slightly. "What'd I miss?" he said with an Australian accent that hit my ears like a soft melody. I took a better look at him then and I can tell he was really handsome. "The oppressive patriarchal values that dictate our education." Kat responded easily. "Good." he stated and immediately left the room. "Hey, hey!" Mr. Morgan yelled after him but it was too late, he had already gone. "Uh, Mr. Morgan. Is there any chance we could get Kat to take her Mydol before she comes to class?" 'pretty boy' asked sarcastically, earning more snickers from the class. "Some day you're gonna get bitch-slapped and I'm not gonna do a thing to stop it." Mr. Morgan said to him. "And Kat. I want to thank you for your point of view." he said as he turned to Kat and she smiled to herself, her social idignation satisfied. "I know how difficult it must be for you to overcome all those years of upper middle class suburban oppression. It must be tough." he went on as she deflated and became bitter again. "But the next time you storm around the PTA crusading for better lunch meat, or whatever it is you white girls complain about, ask them why they cant buy a book written by a black man!" Mr. Morgan exclaimed. "That's right mon!" two of those white rasta kids shouted raising their fists in the air. "Don't even get me started on you two!" Mr. Morgan stated. They grumbled apologetically and quickly shut up. "Anything else?" Kat asked Mr. Morgan. "Yeah. Go to the office. You're pissing me off." Mr. Morgan said walking back up to the front of the room. "What?! Mr. Morgan..." Kat protested. "Later!" he exclaimed. Kat got up in a tiff and on her way out hit 'pretty boy' in the face with her books.
No one's pov:
Kat walked up the office could hear Ms. Perky inside reading her story. "Undulating with desire, Adrienne removes her red... crimson cape... at the sight of Reginald's stiff and... Judith! What's another word for... 'engorged'?" Ms. Perky stopped and asked. "I'll look it up." Judith stated with a strange look on her face. "Okay." Ms. Perky answered. "Swollen, turgid..." Ms. Perky went on, listing words. "Tumescent?" Kat stated as she walked into the office. "Perfect! So I hear you were terrorizing Mr. Morgans class again." Ms. Perky stated honestly. "Expressing my opinion is not a terrorist action." Kat defended. "The way you've expressed your opinion to Bobby Ridgeway? By the way, his testicle retrieval operation went quite well, in case you're interested." Ms. Perky stated. "I still maintain that he kicked himself in the balls." Kat stated evenly. "The point is Kat..." Ms. Perky started, then looked at her coffee cup that had a picture of a cat on it. "Cat." she stated with a smile and then purred, "People perceive you as somewhat..." Ms. Perky paused, looking for the right word to use, "Tempestuous?" Kat offered, "'Heinous bitch' is the term used most often. You might want to work on that." Ms. Perky corrected, "As always, thank you for your excelent guidance. I'll let you get back to Reginald's quivering member." Kat stated as she got up and began walking out of the office. "'Quivering member'... I like that." Ms. Perky thought out loud just before Kat was out of earshot.
