the sun peered through ashton's cream curtains, and right into his eyes. his hazel eyes squinted as they adjusted themselves to the light. ashton turned his head to his left, and only saw blonde hair. the boy grinned softly as he watched his best friend sleep. it made ashton feel funny in his tummy when he looked at luke, and especially at times like this. the quirks lucas had when he slept were something ashton cherished. like when his nose would twitch slightly, or he'd have drool dripping down from the corners of his mouth. and when his hair was in complete disarray was when ashton liked it most.
"hello ashton." luke yawned, stretching his lengthy arms out.
"morning! ready head to the park today?" it was sort of a ritual for the two to visit their neighborhood park on sundays, no matter where ashton lived.
"yes sir-re."
luke helped ashton get ready, just like he did every sunrise. the hazel eyed boy giggled quietly as luke tickled against his sides when he put on ashton's shirt, every morning repeating the same process.
the best friends rumbled down the stairs, and were greeted by ashton's current foster mother, anita.
"good morning ashton! did you take your medication yet?"
luke and ashton had some indescribable emotions displayed on their faces. ashton glared at the woman in confusion, while luke fidgeted in discomfort.
"aren't you forgetting someone very important?" anita sighed, knowing she had forgotten about luke's presence. "and what medication?"
"oh, erm i- your vitamins! i didn't say medication, did i?" anita chuckled nervously.
ashton laughed softly as the woman handed him his 'vitamins'; an colorful array of various sizes. the boy took the 7 pills and downed them with apple juice. he had offered some to luke, but he denied politely.
"come on luke, lets go!" ashton dragged his lanky friend along with him and out the door.
"have fun, ash!"

ashton's loud chuckle hung in the air. the joke luke had just told him was corny, but made him double over in laughter. the park was nearly empty, except for a few fellow classmates of the boys on the jungle gym.
"tell another, please!"
"okay, okay! knock knock."
"who's there?" ashton watched luke intently, already stifling a giggle.
"bo-"
"hey, nutcase!"
a boy from the group of kids hollered at ashton and luke. it was liam, a popular. liam wasn't all to kind to ashton. liam and his posse waltzed over to the two lads, who were shaking in fear. well, luke wasn't as terrified as his best friend was.
"hey, who you talking to? your friend?" liam taunted, and his friends snickered behind him.
"yea-"
"there is nobody here! you're talking to air dumbass!"
"go back to the nuthouse, you freak!" a blonde lad interjected. the group of boys laughed and cheered as they watched tears quickly brim ashton's eyes; luke was trying his best to comfort him.
"what a loser, let's bail."
once those boys were out of earshot, ashton let loose. he sobbed loudly into luke's shoulder, and the blonde rubbed his back delicately. the hazel eyed lad liked when he did this, lucas would treat ashton like a dainty flower; it gave him that funny feeling. that silly sensation made him anxious, but it also calmed him at the same time.
"dont worry, ash. everything is alright. they just dont understand."
