it was monday. ashton and luke really liked mondays. the two boys would volunteer at the nearby primary school. it was even better for the lads because the volunteering counted for school credits.

this morning, it was luke who was the first awake. quite different from the normal early riser ashton.

luke lightly traced shapes on ashton's back as he whispered in his ear.

"time to wake up ashton." the boy grumbled and turned his head away from lucas. "we get to see priscilla." and that instantly woke ashton.

luke and ashton rumbled and tumbled around the room, getting on appropriate clothing and gathering supplies for the girl today.

priscilla was the little kindergarten girl luke and ashton were assigned to last week. the thing about priscilla, is that she's blind. ashton and luke were assigned to the special needs program, which the lads were perfectly fine with.

the two walked side by side the short distance to the school. they had conversations about anything that came to mind. well, it was more ashton rambling about anything that came to mind and luke nodding along.

"luke, do you think priscilla has a favorite color?"

"probably not, ash. she was born blind; she's never seen any color."

"oh, right."

the classroom worked quietly as the students constructed an art project. ashton watched foliage and feathers float delicately down to the floor. priscilla wasn't participating in the art project, she was reading her braille book. her fingers moved delicately over the raised dots on each page.

"ashton? what is this word?" priscilla questioned, her small fingers stopping mid-page. the boy peered over to the book, but all he saw was a bunch of bumps. "y-e-a-r-n-ing."

ashton was puzzled. he could answer the girl, but then she would ask what it meant, and then he'd really be in a pickle.

"yearning. it is a strong urge to be with someone."

"yup, that's what it means. thanks lukey." ashton smiled brightly at luke, who returned it.

"what? you didn't say anything." priscilla furrowed her brows, defining her filmy white eyes.

"luke just told you."

"ashton, i might be blind, but im not deaf. there is nobody else here. everyone else went outside." which was true, all the students were running freely on the playground. luke sat next to ashton, just as confused. when the hazel-eyed boy turned to lucas for an answer, he just shrugged.

"here, talk with her, luke."

"hi priscilla. you're hair is really pretty today." ashton smirked, thinking he proved the girl wrong.

priscilla frowned sharply. if she were able to see, she'd be staring directly into ashton's eyes."maybe it's your ears that should get checked, not mine."

and then right on cue, all the goofy children stomped into the classroom, marking that luke and ashton's shifts were over.

the two boys said their goodbyes to priscilla, and then left quickly; ashton instantly turning to luke for answers.

"what was that about?" ashton catechized.

"don't work yourself up, ash. she's just a little girl. it's alright."
