Chapter Five – Southern Belle Rule #17: Be a Follower of Christ
Cara woke up kneeling over the couch. One of her shoes was suck in a red cup overflowing with alcohol. She couldn’t remember when she had slumped on the couch and passed out. The last memory in her mind was making out with a guy without a shirt. They had moved it to the couch, but after that, everything else was a blur. She glanced around, grimaced at the bodies scattered, and trash covering the rest of the floor. Her parents were going to be pissed if she didn’t clean this up.
Throwing her shoes off to the side, she went to the back to get her bullhorn. She was grateful for the bullhorn her grandma had given her. Who knew that it would actually come in handy? Racing back to the front of the house, she turned it on and screamed into it. What seemed like thousands of bodies started leaping up screaming. She had to hold back the giggles that were surfacing or else you would have heard in on the bullhorn.
“Come on guys, party ended 10 hours ago,” she yelled. Boys gathered there clothes and girls hurried to cover themselves. Other than that, the majority of the partygoers were leaving out her front door. “Hope to see y’all at church this morning.” Moans and curses replied at her comment.
She walked up the stairs to check to see if anyone was in the bedrooms. No one was in her room, but she found three people sprawled on her parent’s bed. She was going to have to burn the sheets because there was no way her parents would want to be in the same room. Pulling her bullhorn up to her lips, she yelled at the people to get and didn’t stop until she saw them evacuate the house. Giving herself a pat on the back she trudged back stairs to witness how catastrophic things at gotten last night.
The mess was obviously too huge for her to clean up on her own. Her first thought was to text Izzy, but decided against it. Izzy must have heard about the party and realized she hadn’t been invited. It wasn’t that Cara didn’t want to invite Izzy. She did, but she didn’t want Izzy to run into Tanner. She was aware that Tanner Hughes was coming to her party. It would be for the best if those two stayed away from each other. Izzy does not want to be mixed in with Tanner Hughes.
Instead, she tried calling Savannah. Her phone run a couple of times before a disgruntled voice answered. “Huh?”
“Good morning sunshine,” beamed Cara. She shifted the phone to the other ear as she picked up someone’s dirty clothes and then flinging it to the trash can. “Can you do me a favor?”
“Cara, it’s like 4 in the morning,” moaned Savannah.
“Actually, darling, it 6 in the morning and from the sound of it, you must have enjoyed the party.”
There was some more groans and rustling. “Okay, fine, what is it?”
“I need your help in cleaning my house. It’s kind of a mess.” Cara glanced around and felt her heart sink. She was never going to finish cleaning the house in time for church. The Women of the South committee were announcing the people who made it to the tryout portion. She had to be there.
“I’m already at your house. It doesn’t look that bad,” said Savannah.
Cara’s eyebrows scrunched together that made her look awkward and young. She hardly ever did it, but Savannah had taken her by surprise. “What do you mean? Where are you?”
“Uh, I don’t know. It’s dark and there are a bunch of clothes, I think.”
Cara rolled her eyes at the drunken stupidity of her friend. “You’re in a closet. Turn the knob and come out.”
