Most vivid amongst the memories of his hometown was that of his mother. Her kind heart and warm hugs. Though tight her hugs seemed to reach every bit of you down to the core. His mother never discriminated, she had always welcomed anyone into her home. When Lance would bring home stray animals his mother wouldn't hesitate on bringing food and water for whatever creature it was this time. He held on tight to those memories for they were the only thing fueling him at the moment. He was staring at the creature, boy, in front of him wondering what the hell he was going to do with him. He wasn't a friend nor enemy, just neutral ground. Something inside him was preventing him though, he knew he needed to help him, aide him to safety. But after the scene he had just witnessed he wasn't so sure. He was no longer the raven-haired boy, full of angst and curiosity. He had changed, he had grown and maybe that's what Lance was seeing. The growth that Keith had undergone had changed him drastically. This past year had been the shaping factor for who he had become today. He was more thoughtful all the while acting more thoughtless.

Keith sat before Lance with his head to the ground staring in dismay at his bare hands. Keith, acting on his own agenda had thrown himself directly into a Galra ship. He managed to crash it into a nearby planet and fight his way to what he needed. Until now Voltron had been clueless, the attack was so sudden and without waning on either end. Allura was furious, Keith hadn't been the same since Shiro disappeared, and despite Shiro's return Keith still seemed lost. Lance was snapped away from his mind by movement from Keith. He was looking up directly at Lance, his breath hitched at the sight of Keith. His eyes, they were painfully the same but everything else screamed Galra.

"Lance?" Keith croaked, readying an apology. He shook his head and began to stand up. "I had to let him go I didn't have a choice!" As Keith took one step forward Lance took one back. How could he accept this from Keith, he was borderline rogue. Lance was furious. He was either on the paladin's side or the Galra's.

"No Keith, you let him go! How could you just let someone so evil go? He was sending his fleet coordinates to enter Earth's galaxy. Earth Keith!" As Lance's anger grew so did his disgust. "You're either with them or us. Don't come back unless you can fully devote yourself to Voltron." Lance paused and stared at Keith's hands for a split second. "Scratch that I don't think I want you with your unreliable traitor self on our side. You're not to be trusted."

Lance tossed Keith's helmet on the ground in front of him and walked off. His heart breaking more and more with each step. This wasn't how it was supposed to happen. Lance had accepted that Keith was part Galra, what he would not accept was a traitor and that's what Keith had proven himself to be. Keith called out to Lance once more, the call so agonizing that it physically pained lance. With a deep breath, he turned to Keith.

Keith stood up completely and walked to lance. Lance was frozen, partially with fear and with partial heartache. Lance couldn't look him in the eyes, by looking into them he could see past the  splotchy purple skin and the white hair that had bleached the dark hair he once loved.

"You're right I need to make a choice." Lance crossed his arms and fully faced Keith. "I'm sorry Lance, but I finally found her. I'm not going to lose my family again. This is who I am, who I fight for." Out of the corner of Lance's eye he could see a feminine figure in the distance. Somehow in his gut he knew it was Keith's mom. When his focus came back to Keith he was already too late. Keith removed the blade that had labeled him as Galra blood and brought it right into Lance's chest. Disbelief and utter shock hit him harder than the pain. Keith's hand stayed on Lance's shoulder as he yanked the sword out from his chest. He could feel the warm liquid pouring from the hole in his chest. His head was light and yet he still felt the stinging of tears in eyes. He still felt the heartache, the betrayal. All the while Keith held no emotion. Lance's breathing was heavy and he was trying to scream, trying to yell for shiro, for Hunk, anybody. But nobody came, he was alone. Keith walked away, silent, not even looking back. Lance screamed praying somebody would find him. He closed his eyes trying to accept his fate that had been handed to him by the man he loved. The one person he had loved more than himself.
