The bell jingled and he walked in and straight up to the counter, averting his eyes from her.
He threw down a twenty and mumbled, "White lilies please."
"Not going to ask for any specific meanings?" She tried to joke and he looked up at her with red eyes.
"My mum is in hospital, they're for her."
She went quiet and handed the lilies over the counter. He quickly grabbed them and made a bee line for the door.
