Here are some tips you could use even if you don't use PicsArt.

SEARCHING FOR BACKGROUND PICTURES/MODELS/SUBJECT

I really recommend Pixabay.com and Unsplash.com

They have free and high quality pictures

They have free and high quality pictures. Though, you will have to sign up for Pixabay but it isn't much of a hassle, anyway.

In Pixabay, you will find tons of pictures/models that actually tells a story. I haven't used Unsplash much yet, but they do have a lot of aesthetic shots.

MAJOR GRAPHICS ≠ GREAT COVER

I said it once, and I'll say it again; the quality of a cover doesn't only depend on the amount of graphic manipulation it has.

So don't fret if you've used maximum of 2-3 layers, as long as it successfully conveys the story or you're satisfied with it, you're good.

DISREGARD THE UNNECESSARY STUFF & DON'T OVERCROWD YOUR COVER

I see a lot of covers with lightning and clocks and all that yet the story does not involve any of those whatsoever... if it's just to make your cover pretty, try another method instead, you might be liking the Sci-Fi cover design too much that you've forgotten you're story is a Humour.
