I was an absolute mess. I decided to take a detour from the police station and went to Total Wines first instead of my neighbourhood. I bought five bottles of Merlot and a box of cheese balls. Comfort foods can do wonders.
I drove back home slowly. I didn't feel safe. I didn't know where to go. I didn't know who I could trust. I didn't know what to do; so I drove. I drove on roads which I never saw before, I drove past a farmhouse. I drove past shopping malls. I drove and I got lost. I drove and I found my way back "home".
I parked my car once again on my driveway and walked out with a bag of wines in one hand and cheese balls in the other. The sun glared on me as if it were against me too. I didn't know what the time was. Maybe it was afternoon. Maybe the sun was going to set. I didn't know. Time felt unreal for me. Everything felt unreal for me.
I saw Lucius in his front yard as I walked out of my car on my driveway and made my way to my front door. I think he said something to me, I could hear his voice but I couldn't understand what he said. It was just muffled voices traveling in the air which couldn't reach my ears.
I went to my kitchen, opened a bottle of red wine and drank it straight from the bottle. I sat on my couch and flipped on the news channel to remind me that there are bigger problems out there.
Every time I started to think too much, I opened a bottle of wine. And that's how my weekend went by. I replaced my emotions with alcohol since I had no other option.
