Orin and I decided to live in the little house Gari had built outside of town. Orin is now repairing the small barn for the horses (something I am rather pleased about), as it was falling apart and unsafe for the poor creatures.
I'm glad that Orin is a hard worker. It's only been two days since we were married, and he is already to work on the property.
I walk outside with a cup of water and look up at Orin, who is standing on a ladder leaned against the side of the barn.
"Ori, I brought you some water."
He smiles and comes down. "Thank you Api." He glances back at the barn. "What do you think?"
"It's wonderful." I notice he is running low on wood. "Would you like me to bring some more wood planks?"
"That'd be great. Three more should be enough to finish the roof, and I'll go ahead and pull the old water troughs out of the barn so we can rebuild those."
"Okay." I smile and hand the cup to Orin, and walk towards a pile of wood planks at the back of the house.
I pick up a long one, surprised at its weight. I then walk back towards the barn slowly, not wanting to hit the board on anything.
Orin has almost pulled out a water trough by the time I get back.
"Here's a plank." I lower it to the ground carefully.
"Thanks." He sets down the trough and pulls the board to the ladder.
"I'll be right back," I say, and go to get another piece of wood.
When I get back, I'm surprised to see Y'matha's son Myo talking to Orin at a furious pace.
"Hello, Myo. What're you doing here today?" I ask as I approach them.
"It's scary, Aunt Api!" Myo turns to me, and I notice that his face is covered in soot, with tears running down his cheeks.
"What's wrong?" I aks, suddenly worried.
"Bad guys are fighting us!" Myo yells in panic.
I drop the wood plank on my foot in surprise.
"Ouch!" I fall to the ground and grab my foot.
"Are you okay?" Orin asks.
"Yeah," I groan.
Orin helps me up. "I think you and Myo should go into the house. I'll ride into Yopha and see what I can do."
I nod quickly, and grab Myo's hand.
Orin runs into the house with us, and grabs his coat. He kisses me and gives Myo a hug then races out to his horse.
"Be careful!" I call after him.
I watch Orin until he is out of sight, then close the door and race to the pantry. I put some food in a piece of fabric I had left on the table earlier, and carefully tie it into a bundle.
Anything could happen.
