The sirens of approaching Police cars slowly but surely approached. The running began again. I knew the district well, I knew how to run from Police here, well, I've done it enough times before. I knew my way round these twisted streets. Of course, I'm not a bad person, Everyone at the squat has to go and steal food and money if they want to stay in The squat, it was like a house rule, or a kind of rent.
The sirens were approaching quickly now. We ducked into a bush, a spiky one. The sirens rushed past us and I heard Angie breath out a weak "phew". Angie casually stepped up out of the bush and signaled us over with our hand.
"why were they after us?" I asked suspiciously.
Angie looked panicked suddenly "I don't have a clue. "
"we need a plan" said Jack, organized as always. I nodded in agreement. Angie put her hand in her pocket and pulled out a huge wad of cash. Hilary's eyes widened, "where did you get that?" Angie gazed guiltily at the money. "I found it" she said, it was so obvious she was lying!
I suddenly recollected that Angie owed saitin money, I had assumed she didn't have enough money to pay him back. I didn't want to be overly inquisitive but at the same time, I didn't want this chance to ask her about it pass.
"I thought you had no money, that's why you couldn't pay Satan back" I probably shouldn't have said it but I just felt it was important. Angie went scarlet with rage, "He isn't getting a cent of my money! I need it for, we'll I just need it. Besides, Satan is just his nickname, his name is Josh" I understood from her tone she didn't want to talk about it so I didn't ask any more.
We trudged along the hard pavement for hours without saying hardly anything until I rolled my sleeve up. Jack instantly noticed the cut, "How did you get that it looks nasty!" I swallowed sharply, if I explained I would sound mad. "I caught it on a branch in the bush, it's noth ing, really ". It was obvious Jack hadn't finished so I quickly caught up with Hilary to talk to her.
Then the sirens returned.
Their menacing ringing were already close, and closing in. We ran round the corner, but I knew I already we were running to a dead end. The police cars moved in and a police officer stepped out. She was tall with long curly blonde hair and had a strong British accent. She grabbed Angie firmly by her wrists and pinned her against the police car, "Angie, your under arrest for fraud, Thievery and Murder," I gasped loudly. Murder? I'm guessing that Angie hasn't been very honest with us.
"you can't arrest her" I proclaimed bravely, or should I say stupidly. "saitin is after her, see, she's an angel and if he gets her, I don't know what he'll do". The police woman turned to another officer, I think you need to take her to Hollow Wood. Jack whispered, "say Kallie's telling the truth," Hilary listened, "She's telling the truth" said Hilary, Jack nodded in agreement. "actually, you'd better take them all to Hollow Wood. Angie looked desperate, "I really am an angel, honestly, the voices told me." Angie told the woman. She shot a look at the other police officer and he nodded.
So they took us to Hollow Wood Psychiatric Unit. Hollow Wood Psychiatric Unit was not fun. I was on my own in a padded room with a special jacket that made me hug myself. It was all because Angie was acting crazy and lashing out and they treated us all the same.
A brunette woman stepped into the room. "Hi Kellie, I'm Maggie. How are you doing?" I said nothing. The jacket made me feel like a fly stuck in a toffee, helpless. "We need some details Kallie, about you. Is there someone we can call to tell them your here?" Her voice was caring and sugar-coated. Still I said nothing. "Come on Kallie, come to the canteen, get some lunch", I nodded.
She removed my straight jacket and attached a tag to my arm. I followed her to the canteen where I saw Jack. I ran up to him, "Jack, they put me in a horrible room with a really uncomfortable jacket. " Jack held me tight, "it's okay Kallie, they did to me too, we'll get out, trust me." And I did, he was the only person in the world I trusted and I needed to trust him now more than ever.
