annie;

I sat in my room staring at the wall, listening to my phone ding over and over again. The messages were the last thing i wanted to see, but i couldn't stand the dinging any longer.
hayden- bbg im so sorry
hayden- please
hayden- let's talk about this
hayden- that girl meant nothing
Katie💕-you busy?
I signed into my phone and blocked Hayden's number, also replying to katie's text.
annie- No, could really use your company rn tho :(
She texted me back that she'd be right over, and within the next five minutes, she was here.
I knew I had just seen her like three hours ago, but I needed her.
"What's up girly?!" Katie yelled as she bursted through the door. I shrugged. "Aww anns, don't be so upset. You kissed your man!" I looked at her, my face scrunched with confusion. "He told you?" I asked. "Yeah, he was saying all this crap about 'how he would break you again.' Which I mean could be true, but I can tell he's falling fam." I shook my head, running my hand through my hair. I knew she was just trying to make me feel better, so I cracked a sly smile and let out a laugh, leading her up to my bedroom.
"Hayden won't stop messaging me about how sorry he is and how much he loves you." Katie grumbled. "Should I block him?"
"That's what I did." She nodded, tapping her phone twice and slamming it down next to her.
"donezooo" we both laughed lightly.
"So talking about Hayden, what should we do to get back at him?" Katie asked, a smirk growing on her face. "I dunno, I mean, what could we do? I don't have anyone to make him jealous with, plus I wouldn't want to use someone like that. And isn't it a little immature to get back at him?" I admitted. She thought for a moment, then she bursted out laughing. "I have the best idea!" She snickered. I raised my eyebrows, ready to hear what her terrible plan was.
The next day at school, in the hallway after the last bell rang.
I texted Hayden to meet me in front of my locker, saying that we should talk about us. He instantly replied, saying he was on his way.
Katie was watching from her locker, with Brennan right next to her. I saw Hayden come around the corner, his eyes instantly falling on me. I was surprised to see that he had dark marks around his eyes, along with a slight glassiness to them.
"I'm sorry baby, please forgive me." He sighed.
"Forgive you? Why would I need to do that? I mean, you already cheated on me." I said really loudly. I saw a few people glance towards us. "Annie, can we talk about this privately?"
"What, you want to keep it a secret that you made out with that red head? Did you know that she came up to me today, hugged me, and said how sorry she was that an ass like you broke my heart?" It was true, her name was Margret, and she didn't seem too bad. "Annie.." He mumbled. "It's too late to say sorry, I was fucking falling for you, but you didn't catch me, you just let me fall on the concrete, Hayden. Screw you," I scratched my nose, and glanced at Katie. She was holding two bags. One had all her books in it, while the other...
She took what was in the bag out, ran over to Hayden, turned him around, and smashed a pie in his face. The whole hallway filled with laughter. I wish I got enjoyment out of this, but it just made me feel more numb.
He stared at me, hate burning in his eyes. "You'll regret this." He said. I turned around and hugged Katie, Brennan coming up and joining us. We pulled apart, but I felt Brennan's eyes locked on me.
I felt my cheeks grow hot. He smiled, and I did too.
---
Katie walked me home in the cold. It was quite far, but she didn't care. Brennan had to go to work, so he couldn't drive us.
The entire walk home we spent talking, and most of it was Katie laughing.
"Were we too mean?" I asked. I didn't want her to know I didn't get enjoyment out of it, she obviously did, and that was honestly good enough.
"No, he full on cheated on you when you guys were going strong. He deserved so much worse than that."

Tuesday
Katie and I walked through the school doors to start a new day. I was happier than yesterday, maybe Katie's dumb idea was a working a little. The guilt left instantly, and now I was mostly pissed.
Until I saw him again.
Katie sighed, tapped me on the shoulder, and pointed to my locker. There was Hayden, pressing a girl against my locker. Via.
I rolled my eyes. "Sorry to interrupt this lovely scene, but I need my books for French." Hayden smirked at me, but I didn't react. Unsatisfied, he pushed Via off and walked away.
We had only dated for such a short amount of time, but just seeing him on someone else again hit a little too hard. I guess I really fell for him.
"What a pathetic loser." Brennan said as he walked up behind me. I nodded my head lightly, watching Hayden walk down the hall in anger.
During lunch, Mia approached our table. I couldn't seem to get a break.
"You pathetic bitch!" Mia screamed in my face. I stood up out of my chair and looked at her. "Mia can we please do this another day," I asked, really confused but not wanting to deal with her bullshit.
"I said you're a bitch!" She yelled, pushing me backwards. I tripped and slammed into the ground. Mia crouched down next to me. "Next time, don't steal my boyfriend, and don't call someone else a 'pathetic loser' when you're the one who is." She slapped me across the face and walked away. My gaze followed her as she left, seeing that she was walking with Hayden.
I rolled my eyes as I stood up, brushing myself off. Everyone was staring at me. "Don't you have something better to do? Eat!" I yelled, sitting down. Gossip filled the room.
"Are you alright?" Katie asked me. My entire table looked at me concerned. I nodded my head, and continued lunch in silence.
I wasn't even the one to call Hayden a pathetic loser.

"You alright?" Brennan and I were in his car, impatiently waiting for Katie.
"Yeah, hard day."
"I heard about what Mia did, and i'm really sorry she shouldn't have-"
"She's not your responsibility, Brennan. Didn't you two break up?" He glanced down, messing with his hands.
"Well, yeah. I guess I just feel like when it comes to you and her she's my responsibility. She wouldn't be acting like that if it wasn't for the fact that I liked you." I nodded, glancing out the window to see Katie leaving the building.
"So remind me why we can't be together again?" He looked up at me, sighing.
"For this exact reason. Mia'll do shit, I'll do shit, i'll just hurt you,"
Katie opened the door, Brennan and I stopping our conversation.
"Wow you kiddos look happy," She looked at us both, sitting down in the seat next to me.
"Tough crowd."
Text convo a-Annie k-Katie💕
K- you alright Annie bananie?
A- yeah
K- that's not very convincing. Did what Mia said get you down? It's not true.
I looked at her, then glanced slightly at Brennan. She made an 'O' shape with her mouth.
They dropped me off and I spent my night staring at my celling. "Annie?" Hayley asked, walking into my bedroom. "Yeah?" "I have a problem." I looked at her with my eyebrows scrunched.
"I like this guy... His name's Nate.." She smiled as she said his name. My mouth dropped open as I started bursting out with laughter. "Awww Hayley's got a crush!!" She ran over to me and put her hand over my mouth. "Shhh! If mom finds out then she'll bug me about it!" I pushed her hand off my mouth. "Just don't go after him too fast, okay? You're only 12, relationships don't always go great when you're that young. Just make sure he's not a jerk..." I trailed off. She looked at me questioningly. "Hayden and I.. We're over." "Oh, sorry Annie. But Nate's not like that! I promise." She hugged me. "Just make sure my baby sister doesn't get her heart broken!" I yelled as she ran out my door.
I pulled out my phone and went to Hayden's number. I had unblocked it to text him to meet me by my locker the other day. I shouldn't of texted him? but I did anyways.
"I won't say anything else if you don't, just stay away from me and my friends" I pressed send. 'That wasn't me. It was Mia.' I was about to block him again, but I got another message.
"Look Annie, I know I messed up. But I love you. I know we haven't really said that yet, but I do. And I really hope you can find it in your empty heart to forgive me, or the hollowness'll get worse." I threw my phone across the room in anger. Why do I always fall for the boys that leave me like this?
Hayley came running into my room again. "Mommy says we're going out to dinner with the Donnelly's tonight as a good luck charm for you guys to start finals tomorrow." She ran out of my room as fast as she came in, leaving me confused and irritated.
Maybe I need to try to make this a good night to make up for how terrible my week has been.
