Annie;
Brennan and I have been dating for a little over a month now, and things have been.... off. I mean, it's alright, just he doesn't seem to mean anything he says, like he's holding his breath. He's hiding something, and I want to know what it is.
Today's Valentine's Day, and I mean it's a day of love, right? perfect day to see what's bothering him. His car pulls up in my driveway as I walk out of the house, locking the door behind me. Opening the passenger seat door, I find a pile of roses on my seat. A smile curves up my lips, my eyes beaming at Brennan.
"Happy Valentine's Day, now get in the car so I can brag to everyone about how cute my girlfriend is." Brennan smirks, moving the roses so I can sit down.
"Where's Katie?" I ask, noticing she's not in the back like usual. "I don't know, I think she got a ride with a guy she's into," "AND SHE DIDNT TELL ME!" I yell, putting a hand on my chest acting offended.
"Oh calm yourself, you'll probably know in five minutes." I laughed, pulling out my phone. I glance up at him to see that he's staring at the road, his slight smile now completely gone.
"Are you alright?" I turn off my phone, genuinely concerned. All he did was nod. My face scrunches with confusion. "don't lie to me," He pulled the car into the school parking lot, handing me my roses. "It's nothing, if it was I'd let you know," He puts a fake smile on his face, turning and getting out of the car. He runs towards his friends as I walk to meet Katie at the front of the building.
"AWWW HE OT YOU ROSES!!" She coos as she races towards me.
"Something is off with that boy, and I'm gonna find out what it is," Katie stops walking, puzzlement filling her expression. "You don't think it's Mia again, do you?" "I honestly have no clue, I think he's changed. He wouldn't do that to me, right?" She shrugs her shoulders as we stop at my locker, putting my roses in it. Brennan walks up next to me, putting his hands around my waste.
"How's my favorite girl?" He asks me, putting his head on my shoulder. "I'd be better if you told me what's wrong," I turn around, hugging him. "I told you, anns, nothing's wrong, I'm fine." "That's bullshit!" I laugh looking towards Katie. "She's right," I nod my head frantically at him. "Just drop it, ok? Can you do that one simple thing?" He snaps, walking away. Sighing, I walk with Katie to first period.
~
The last day of the bell rings, everyone running out of first period. I return to my locker, picking up my roses. A note also falls out, a note from Brennan.
Annie,
I'm sorry that I've been off recently, you deserve to know what's been bothering me. Meet me behind school at 3:55 or so, this seems sketchy it's not I promise.
   -Brennan
I laugh, putting the note into my pocket. He's probably just making it behind the school so that I'll laugh. Behind the school is the make out place, you know, for people not to get caught. I sling my backpack over my shoulder as I walk through the school doors.
I make my way to the back of the school. I here voices, so I decide to peek around the corner so I don't walk over to someone having sex behind the school. It is Valentine's Day, I wouldn't be surprised.
What I saw, though, wasn't what I was expecting. It was Brennan and Mia.
"please leave, I'm meeting annie here in a few minutes," He paced angrily.
"Brennan, do you really want this out? it's an eye for an eye you know." She purred, enjoying this too much. He gulped, and went to turn away, but Mia grabbed his hand, spun him around , and started making out with him. She pushed him up against the wall, he was trying to get away, push her off, but she was heavily pushing him up against the wall. He finally relaxed and kissed her back. This lasted for around a minute, each moment my heart breaking. She pulled away from him, his hands wrapped around her waste. He frowned, she smiled. "See? That's not too bad. It's better then Annie knowing, about the bet, right?" His frown grew bigger as he leaned back into her, kissing her passionately. Tears started to stream down his face, matching mine. Mia was smiling, so big you could see it from a mile away. They continued to kiss for what seemed like forever, me holding in my sobs, so that they wouldn't know I was there. Finally she pulled apart. Brennan's face was red, and stained with tears.
"See, that wasn't too bad" he nodded sitting down, leaning his back on the wall. She sat next to him, a frown showing on her face. "I'm sorry Brennan, I really am. But, like is this that bad?" He shook his head. "You're a good kisser." He laughed weakly. "But not as good as Annie." His frown grew, thinking about what he'd done. "She's the love of my life Mia. And if I have to do this to stay with her, then I will, no matter how much it hurts me." "Wow, you're braver then I thought. I didn't realize you'd do all this for a little bet." He nodded. "If she finds out, she'll be heart broken. She'll want to kill me, Mia. She will." "Brennan, the bet was so tiny." "Mia, for you to say you'd give me a twenty thousand dollars for me to leave her is horrible. And the fact that i actually thought about it. To leave her, everything we put into this relationship, for money? That'd break her heart." I put my hand over my mouth. He was going to leave me? Just for money? Wait, how recent was this? When I heard them talking, that was a few months ago, before we had this relationship...
"Not that bet..." Mia mumbled. "What?" "Brennan that just happened two weeks ago, I was just talking about way back when Marcus payed you to make out with me in the car, when Annie ran away sobbing...." I walked out for them to see me, Brennan's eyes widened, and surprisingly, so did Mia's. "Two weeks ago?....." I mumbled, my voice cracking. "Annie, it's not like that," Brennan said, running towards me. I pushed him away. "Not like that?" Waterfalls poured from my eyes. "Brennan, I don't know where you're from, but this sounds a hell of a lot like that." He walked up to me again, and I slapped him. Tears started to from in his eyes. "Annie please..." "For money? You'd give me up for twenty thousand? I thought I meant the world to you. Not less then twenty thousand dollars." "Annie let me explain, please." You better hurry up, because you're running out of time." I gulped. I tasted the salty tears on my lips. "Annie, I'm in love with you-" "that's something you should regret." That's when I broke down. I looked at Mia, she was crying. Her, crying. I shook my head, throwing the roses hard against his chest, running away as fast as possible. "Annie!" Brennan called. I ran. I didn't know where I was running, what I was running on, I just ran. I ran until I heard the loud horn. I ran until the unbearable pain hit my side, until I fell, slamming my head on the windshield, and until I thought I died. ~
I haven't updated this is a long time whoops. I hit 4K reads so I thought it'd be a good idea to finish it. I don't know how much longer it'll be tbh, especially since I have another story now (check it out it's a maze runner fanfic) Anyways, hope you enjoyed this lil plot twist. vote if you enjoyed!
