It felt like I've been trying to get Katerina's attention for the past ten minutes. The lecture and language was cut short, Mr. Bennign didn't have much patience today.

So we sat around on our desks, talking among ourselves. Being the non-talkative person I was, I kept to myself staring at Katerina's or Kari's back as she was huddled over her desk, writing something.

I glanced over my shoulder hearing a group of guys laughing behind me. Blake was sitting with Howard and Jace, two of Trance's friends. I sighed to myself, cussing that I actually took that ride from him. Blake hasn't left me alone all day and I'm sure Trance thought that I was lying to him about everything.

I had to find a different ride home today, getting another ride from Blake would be suicide.  Locking eyes on Kari's blonde wavy hair, I leaned forward and whispered. She was a few rows up, but I suspected she would hear me. "Kari!"

Her head didn't move. "Kari!" I whispered louder. Looking around, I realized I was making a complete fool of myself. I was going to have to figure something else out.

Glancing down by my feet, I spotted a small thick pink pen. Hopefully my lack of throwing would pay off and not knock her out. With one quick throw, I launched the pen at the back of her head.

"Ouch!" she complained, glaring back at the source. I gave her a sympathetic smile.

"Sorry! I just-"

"Mia Rivers!" The class fell silent to the stern sound of my name. Mr. Bennign rose from his chair, wagging a finger at my face. "How many times have I told you not to throw things in my room?"

"Uh," my stomach dropped from all of the heads turning to look at me. "Um, Never?" I said slowly. Though I wasn't trying to be a smartass, it was the truth. Mr. Bennign has never directly spoke to be a day in my life.

As chuckles filled the room, Mr. Bennign's face grew red. I knew that he was going to explode on me, the question was, what was he going to say? "Detention, Rivers!"

"What? But I-"

"Now, Rivers!"

I scoffed, standing to gather all of my books. This would've been a perk if it was the middle of the school day, that would mean that I would've had to be out of class the rest of the day.

But it just happened to be seventh hour when I decided to throw that object at the back of my friend's head. That meant that I would have to stay after school for another hour or so, yay Friday.

The only way for me to get home today would be to walk, second time's the charm. I was really hoping for a ride, but I needed the walk.

Walking into the detention room, I realized it would be impossible for me to stay awake. There were only three other people in the room, and the looked like they were cracked out on something.

Mr. Fagin was the teacher, or supervisor. He couldn't have been a day under seventy-five. It took the man ten minutes to walk from one end of the hallway to another. I was actually shocked that he was still awake.

He locked eyes on me before picking up the slip and examining it, holding it three inches from his face. "Well, it's a shock to see you in here."

I sighed, walking towards the of the seats in the front. "How long do I have?"

"Looks like...an hour in a half. But since it's Friday, I'll make it an hour." I smiled at him as he gave me a soft wink.

I soon found myself lost in my own thoughts, thinking of how I was going to get home and praying that it wouldn't rain. I couldn't help but get anxious as I saw the clouds start rolling in, my leg wouldn't stop shaking as I chewed on my necklace. "Mr. Fagin, is it supposed to rain?"
