Suddenly I couldn't breathe. I wasn't sure where I was or how I really got here. Alter hearing those words echo through the church I knew I couldn't stay to feel everyone's pitied gaze on me. I just took off, grateful Bailee hadn't talked me into heals. It wasn't until after I caught my breath that I realized exactly where I was. This was the exact spot Jake proposed two years prior. I collapsed in a heap of white tool and tears. My head held in my hands I began to sob uncontrollably as I remembered back to that day.

~Two Years Ago~

"Jake, What are you doing home?" I asked

"I took the rest of the day off. Thought a picnic in the park with the most beautiful girl would be the best way to start summer." Jake laughed as he held out a picnic basket. As I go to take a peek he playfully swats my hand away. "Not yet, sweetie" It was a perfect summer day. It was just the right warmth with a gently breeze that kept catching my dress up. He set the blanket up by a tree and it felt like we were teenagers again. When I was with Jake it always felt like a dream. After we finished eating we took a stroll to the fountain.

"I wish every day could be like this," I sighed. "just me and you." Suddenly a grin appeared from Jakes face.

"It's funny you would say that," Jake laughed getting down on one knee. "because I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He pulled a box out of his pocket as he spoke. I had a feeling that is was going to happen soon. Bailee had been so insistent on getting manicures just days prior. "Darla, will you marry me?" All I could do was nod. There was no way this was real. Is that a yes," he laughed as he slipped the ring on my finger.

"Yes Jakie, a thousand times yes," As I answered suddenly I was surrounded by our family. Everyone cheered and laughed. Everything seemed so perfect.

"Congratulations," Samantha has forced through her teeth moments later. I had thought that it was just another bad day at the office that made her seem so upset. Just how Samantha always was.

~Present Day~

I realized then that it was me that Jake proposed to that really had made Samantha mad. I started to think that maybe they had the affair for two years or longer. I felt sick to my stomach. I looked up and finally realized people started to form around the fountain staring at something. All of a sudden I realized it was me, the train wreck of a bride, I quickly buried my face in my hands again and tried to stop myself from crying so loud. It wasn't until I heard his voice that I realized Jake was right in front of me.

"Darla, we need to talk," Jake coaxed, "We need to go somewhere private." I peered from my hands as I watch his face grimace as he takes in the audience that had begun to gather. His face inched closer to mine. "They're going to think I hurt you."

"You did!" I protested, "You slept with your boss!" The fiery built inside me as my volume increased. "You got her pregnant."  I could faintly hear my mother yell they are over here when I spotted Samantha. I leaped up and ran in her direction. "You slut!" I bellowed. No longer in control of my words or actions I felt my hand rise and with a forceful smack to her right check my hand tingled with the aftermath.

"I must seem like a fool to you," I screeched, "We were friends! I thought..." My voice began to trail off, as the initial shock left by body I was left with a feeling of betrayal. Suddenly I was tired and too exhausted to fight.

"You naive child," Sam hissed "we were never friends. I was using you, a reason to get closer to Jake. You meant nothing to me. What in earth did you ever see in her Jake? She's pathetic."

"Jakie," I sighed, I could feel him rush to me his head buried in shame.

"Yes, Darla?" He answered

"Why Jake? Why her, why now?" I sniveled

"Darla, I'm so sorry, Oh my Darla, I didn't mea-" but before he could even finish my mother was at my side.

"Enough," She demanded

"Momma?" I breathed, I wasn't even sure if she heard me until she wrapped her arms around me pulling me close to her.

"It's ok sweetie, Moms here." She cooed
