i shuddered at the sound of the familiar yet terrifying voice. of course the one person I had been dreading to see all day comes to me first.
I close my locker door to see Taylor leaning against the locker next to mine.
"what do you want?" I asked.
"you." he put his hands on my waist and attempted to push me against the locker.
my hand came in full contact with his right cheek, the force so hard it turned his head to the side, leaving a red mark. he looked back at me with an unidentifiable emotion and for a moment I was scared.
"you're aggressive, I like it," he said, "it turns me on when you play hard to get." he whispered in my ear.
I shoved him off of me and stormed down the hall.
"wait! I didn't get your number!" he called after me.
"fuck off!" I yelled back. I had absolutely no intention if giving him my number. ever.
arriving at my first period math, one minute before the bell rang, I searched the room for an empty desk. I noticed matthew was also in this class, thank god just him and none of the other boys.
I spotted a desk in the back corner and settled myself into it. the bell rang moments later and the teacher came to the front of the classroom, standing in front of the board to present himself.
"goodmorning class, my name is Mr. Johnson and I'll be teaching y'all math this year." he said very robotically, as if he'd said it a million times before.
"to start off id like everyone to get out a sheet of paper and a pencil. textbooks are under the desks and the assignment will be on the board. I'll be at my desk if you need anything." he finished. he went back to his desk and focused his attention on his computer, probably watching football.
I was trying to start my assignment until I heard someone whispering my name.
"pst. Ava. psssst." I ignored him until I finally couldn't take it.
"for Christs sake Matt what do you want?!" I half whispered/yelled.
"I saw you and Taylor in the halls, are you guys a thing now?" he smirked.
"no, we are not a 'thing.' we never were and never will be."
"why not?"
"he's an asshole. that's why. " I spat.
he opened his mouth as if he were going to say something but closed it and just worked on his assignment.
before I knew it the 55 minutes were up and the bell rang to go to our next class. Mr. Johnson was standing by the door collecting the assignments from the students as they walked out. thankfully I had finished mine just in time so I could get full credit.
the day carried on and on until it was finally time for lunch. I spotted my best friend, malorie, and we got in line for lunch together.
"hey boo, how's your day so far?" she asked excitedly.
"pretty good. you?" I replied.
"great. I have second AND third period with Matt so far." she bit her lip in excitement, her body bouncing from happiness.
her and Matt had always secretly had a thing for each other but never really told anyone. I always thought it was so cute how red and happy she would get talking about him. I smiled at her, happy that at least she was going to have a good year.
"do you have any classes with the boys?" she asked me as we got a lunch tray to start serving ourselves food.
"I have first period with Matt, second with Cameron and Aaron, and third with carter, jack, and jack. I'm not sure about fourth, fifth or sixth period yet."
"hopefully you don't have any classes with Taylor. whata mess that'll be."
"tell me about it." I said as I grabbed a piece of pizza and a bag of chips.
I grabbed a water bottle and malorie and I made our way to an empty lunch table. we usually sat alone, except for our other friend Malia. the three of us were like best friends, we usually only hung out with each other on the weekends and at school. but deep down malorie and I knew the two of us were always a bit closer than we were with Malia.
"hey, have you seen Malia yet today?" I asked her, taking a bite of my pizza.
she shook her head in response.
"no not yet actually now that I think about it." she responded, taking a bite of her burrito.
almost as if on que, Malia stumbles through the cafeteria doors, all attention turning to her.
her hair was all over the place, she was wearing an Obey sweatshirt with torn up jeans. she stopped and looked around before spotting us and taking a seat at our table.
"hey where have you been? and what is up with your hair?" malorie asks.
"I woke up late this morning! I barely even had time to do my hair and of course I somehow even on the first day of school managed to fuck up." she threw her hair up in a messy bun and pulled her lunch out of her bag along with her schedule.
I looked at it noticing we had sixth period together. that meant all three of us had sixth period together.
what fun that would be.
the three of us talked for the remaining amount of time for lunch before the warning bell rang. we said our goodbyes before going our separate ways to our next class. I headed to my fourth period art, praying I wouldn't see Taylor's face.
entering the room, the smell of clay, paint, and must filled my nostrils. I loved having art as a class because it was a way for me to express my emotions and let out anything I needed to let go of.
"sit down at a table and make groups of four everyone!" my art teacher ms. miller shouted to the class.
I sat down at an empty table, waiting for three others to become part of my group.
of course the last people I wanted to sit with me came, nash and Cameron. they sat down in front of me, smirking, leaving one empty seat left next to me.
"is this seat taken?" a deep voice asks from behind me.
