"I don't know Ryan, what should I do?" I asked, my head in his lap as we sat on his bed and played video games.
"that asshole has been giving you hell since the fifth grade. but if it seems like he's been nice lately, then why not? just give it a shot. it's just one date." he replied.
"thanks Ryan." I smiled. "I think I might do it."
Ryan and I met and kindergarten and instantly became best friends. all throughout grade school he was one of my few friends I had. he's always been there for me no matter what, and I honestly have no clue as to where id be today without him. whether it be giving me advice on boys or letting me cry on his shoulder, Ryan has stuck by my side through everything. I'll never be able to express how grateful I am to have someone like him in my life.
he had dark brown hair, almost black, and hazel eyes. he was fairly tall and pretty muscular, but scrawny compared to the jocks at my school.
"well I should probably get going. see ya later." I said, giving him a hug before leaving his room.
"later." he called after me, continuing to play his video games.
"bye mrs. Pratt! thank you for everything!" I called into the kitchen to Ryan's mom.
"bye sweetie! come back soon!" she called back.
"I will!"
I exited his house and walked across the street to mine.
oh yeah I forgot to mention, Ryan lives right across the street from me.
once I got home I went to my room and on my laptop, scrolling through tumblr.
thank god tomorrow was Friday.
***NEXT DAY***
I was putting my things in my locker, getting ready to head to third period when I heard Taylor from behind me.
"so did you make up your mind?" he asked.
"yeah, I wanna do it. but only if you agree to not be a jerk."
his eyes lit up for a moment but he quickly covered it up, probably trying to be badass or something.
"alright cool well can I get your number now?" I hesitated and finally gave in.
after giving him my number I said goodbye and went to my third period.
-
it was after school and I had just gotten home when I received a new text.
from: unsaved number
be ready at 7. (:
I smiled, I was actually kind of looking forward to this date.
I decided since it was only 4, I would start getting ready in an hour or so.
I wonder what this night will bring.
***
after reapplying some makeup and fixing my hair, I put on my outfit for the date. I decided on faded and ripped high waisted shorts, a white tank top, and a peach/tan cardigan along with white converse and a lightning bolt necklace.
my phone vibrated and I looked at the new message.
new message from: Taylor
outside!
I grabbed my purse and headed outside. Taylor's black range rover was parked against the curb outside my house.
it was ironic because a range rover was always my dream car and he had one.
Taylor hopped out of the car and greeted me with a hug.
"you look beautiful." he complimented me.
"thank you." i blushed.
he smiled and opened the passengers door for me as I got inside and buckled myself in.
maybe Taylor wasn't such an asshole like I thought he was, maybe he was actually a gentleman.
we were driving for about 10 minutes or so before we arrived in a parking lot.
Taylor came around and opened the door for me.
we started walking through the parking lot until I stood under a big sign that read "Indianna State Fair"
how did he know I loved the state fair?!
I squealed with joy and he smiled.
"are you excited?" he asked.
"yes!" I replied quickly.
"well then let's go ride some rides!" he held my hand in his which I thought was cute and he led me into the park.
after getting our wristbands we spotted a mini roller coaster called "The Tornado" that spun you around really fast.
we went on it at least 4 times before agreeing to take a break.
"I'm hungryyy." I said after about an hour and a half of riding different rides.
"let's go get some food then." he intertwined his hand with mine and we walked over to a food stand.
the menu consisted of the expected fair food; hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, pizza, corndogs, etc.
I decided on a hot dog and dr. pepper and Taylor got nachos and a Pepsi. we also got Cotten candy to share.
after eating our food, we looked around for any rides we hadn't ridden yet.
that's when I spotted the Farris wheel.
"hey, taylor, we haven't gone on the Farris wheel yet!" I poked him and pointed to the ride. he nodded and we got in line.
we got into one of the seats and the ride soon took off. it was awkwardly quiet for the first few moments until Taylor spoke up.
"I'm really glad you agreed to this." he looked at me and smiled.
"me too. I'm having a lot of fun." I returned the smile.
the ride stopped as we were at very top, giving us a view of all the city lights.
"Ava?" Taylor said.
"hm?" I looked over and he started to lean in. I didn't know what to do, so I leaned in too, and sooner or later our lips collided.
I felt this strange feeling go through my body, not anything bad, almost like a lust. I didn't want the kiss to stop but I had to pull away because not only was this just our first date, but also because I barely knew Taylor.
he looked at me and smiled just as it was our turn to get off.
we went back to the car and got inside.
the whole way home I was feeding him bites of Cotten candy and we were talking about a bunch of different random things.
unfortunately, we pulled up in front of my house, which meant the date was over.
"well I had a really great time tonight." I smiled at him. "thank you for everything."
"no problem, I had fun too. we'll definitely have to do this again sometime."
"forsure." I replied.
after helping me out of the car he embraced me in a tight hug and kissed my cheek.
"goodnight gorgeous." he said before getting back into his car and driving off.
I went inside, changing into pajamas and getting into bed. by the time I got home it was already almost 11.
I lie in bed staring at the ceiling, thinking about how much fun I actually did have tonight.
maybe Taylor wasn't really the guy I thought he was.
