Chapter 9

Her Butler is Heroic

Lance arrived at the old Aristella mansion and discovered that it was empty, save for a lone fox that skittered away when it saw him.

Then he heard a rustle in the nearby bushes. When he went to find out what it was, it was only a flock of black crows. And then there was another rustling in the other nearby bushes and from there emerged Daniel along with Erin.

“Well well well. Look who’s here. Bravo, you knew where to find me.”

       “Let mistress go.”

“Not yet. Let’s have some fun first shall we?”

And Daniel thrusts Erin away like a rag doll. She slams her head to a piece of wall in the west side of the mansion ruins. She loses consciousness and was bleeding due to a head injury.

“Milady…!” Lance rushed forward but he was blocked by Daniel. “Oh no no no, you are not going to her, no. You have to defeat me first.” And Daniel unleashed a flurry of chains and succeeded in restraining Lance.

Chained and unable to move, he could only watch Erin bleed to death. His captor drags him and chained to a nearby metal pole just a few feet away. And then Daniel walks toward Erin and seem to have done something to her. She was screaming and seemed to be in pain.

And when he saw his mistress’ blood sprayed everywhere, he snapped. That was the last straw.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I opened my eyes again, I saw Lance take down Daniel and they disappeared into the bushes. I took my time and looked around me. There’s blood everywhere.  And I realized that I was bleeding from my injury, my body’s drenched in the scarlet liquid flowing from it.  I tried to stand up, I couldn’t move. It looks like I was paralyzed.

I look further more beyond. Every where I lay my eyes on, there’s nothing but blood. What’s going on in here?

And then I heard the sound of some metals clashing. It must be that there is some fight going on. Where’s Lance I wondered?

All of a sudden, two silhouettes sprang up from the bushes and disappeared into the night again. I wasn’t able see them clearly in that short time they were vulnerable but I’m sure that one of them is my butler… or was he really?

“Ugh…” I groaned. My head hurts and my injury seems to be going worse by the minute. And there’s some voices reverberating in my head. It must be that stuff Daniel said something to me earlier, about a traitor.

If I recall correctly, he had said…

“…he’s the one who wants to kill you after he killed your parents.” There’s no way I would believe that… Lance is…

       “Aaah!!” I screamed.

My head started to throb again due to intense pain. If I remain like this for a long time, I will die from this terrible injury. Even if I wanted to move, it would be but of futile effort.

The only thing left for me was to wait until he returns

Lance, on the other hand was still fighting with Daniel. Both of them had serious wounds in them. But it seems that they aren’t still going to give it up until one of them is down.

Bloody and battered, Daniel still managed to stand firm and smile ear to ear despite the damaged look on himself. While Lance isn’t looking the most elegant butler he is, covered with lots of wounds and his weapon destroyed, he wasn’t clearly much properly prepared to all of this.

“So, Lance pretty boy, why don’t you just give up and come with me. If only you haven’t forced me to do this to you and voluntarily give yourself up you would have looked pretty presentable when I bury you.”

“Might as well have been you, Daniel. But you know that I definitely don’t have anything to do with what happened to that incident.”

At that moment, Daniel takes offense and thrusts the rapier which Lance missed. Unfortunately he wasn’t left unscathed.

Lance covered his fresh wound in his left arm to temporarily stop the bleeding. He gritted his teeth and jumped high in the air preparing to launch an aerial attack.

“Just admit it, that you are a chicken. You are definitely the worse of all the demons. You cannot even kill a single human like what I and Andrew are able to do that night! You said that you’ll kill her but no, you just went all chicken on us. You’re really a wimp.” Daniel said and he kicked Lance in the side that made him out of balance and came crashing to the ground.

“No, you are wrong. It’s not that I couldn’t kill humans. It’s that I have just a fetish for them. They are nothing but ingenious creatures that never fail to amaze me every time. And why should I kill my precious master? She’s my driving reason to live after all. I just live for their satisfaction.

“Now then, seeing as you, a threat to my master’s existence, I shall eliminate you once and for all.”

Lance levitates into the air once again. He chants some strange spells and a huge magic circle appeared behind his back.

When Daniel realized what Lance was about to do, his face turned pale. Sensing something bad is about to happen, he tries to flee. But alas, he found himself unable to move in his place.

       “What’s going on?!” he stuttered.

“This is, perhaps, goodbye for you now.” Lance said.

       “NOOO!” Daniel screamed.

With a wave of the hand, the magic circle was activated. Beams of light emerged from it and fired straight at Daniel. When it hit him, a huge explosion followed.

The people from the town were alarmed by the explosion in the forest. They started heading towards the old mansion in torches and weapons.

Lance immediately left the battlefield and went to his mistress who was left in the mansion ruins.

He found her the same way Erin was left. He was alarmed to see her eyes were closed and she wasn’t breathing. He approaches her and touches her face. It felt icy cold. His face grimaced. It is as what he had feared the most.

It can’t be, he thought. He immediately grabbed her wrist and checked her pulse. It was very weak and it would be likely that she might die if he won’t get her to seek medical attention immediately.

He lifted Erin in his arms and within the blink of an eye; they disappeared into the moonlight…

He has to move double time in order to win against his race with death. She just can’t simply die.
