The subtle, cool breeze flowed around the luxurious apartment in New York City, that belonged to the Underwood family, my family.

The cool, modern theme of the flat was quite spectacular. My mother personally designed every inch, yet it still lacked to feel like a home.

There was only a few more weeks of summer, and I had previously received the news from my parents that I would not be returning to Ilvermorny this upcoming autumn. My parents waited to tell me because they knew my  reaction wouldn't be a pleasant one. Ilvermorny is my home and I'll dearly miss my house.

I sat in my bedroom, refusing to leave the solace it possessed. A small huff was emitted from my lips, for I tried to subdue my anger.

The pristine, silver cage that hung near the open window rattled in frustration. My eyes fluttered over instantly.

The light brown, Barn owl hooted loudly to get my attention. Reluctantly, I gently rolled off of my bed and made my way over to my owl, Twyla. She began to hoot more enthusiastically as I came closer. "Would you like to get some air?" I asked her knowingly. My voice raised endearingly at my trusted friend.

I quickly undid the latch of her cage, and I watched as she darted out the window. "At least someone gets to escape for a while," I said quietly to myself. The wind from outside was able to fully flow onto my face, which scattered my hair everywhere.

My mind drifted to when I had first purchased Twyla and when I had received my wand at Wolfe's shop before my first year at Ilvermorny.

*Flashback*

The small pet shoppe's owner was in the back of the store helping another customer while my mother and I searched for my perfect companion. My father waited outside because many of the animals made him squeamish. I let go of my mother's hand and began to scope out the different rows.

Soft whispers filled my ears, so I peered around the store to see if there was anymore customers hiding throughout the small space. Only the beady eyes glowed back from a multitude of critters.

I knitted my eyebrows together worriedly because there wasn't anybody else in sight, but the whispering continued. "Mother, do you hear anything?" I piped up to catch her attention. Her light brown hair flowed over her shoulder as her green eyes turned to meet my own emerald orbs, "Hear what, Iris?" Her mouth formed a subtle frown.

"I hear people whispering. It's very quiet, but still there," I clarified. I bit my lip anxiously, for she didn't answer right away. The whispering was eerie and sending chills down my limbs.

A grand smile replaced her features, "I think I just spotted your new pet, Love."

She changed the conversation and slowly waltzed passed me and stopped at the owl section and motioned me over. I sighed in defeat, but joyfully pranced over to meet my new owl.

My smile lit up all my features as I held up the cage that held my own owl.

The delight I was feeling surprisingly rubbed off onto my parents, who were usually very austere. I had just turned eleven and I would be going to Ilvermorny for the very first time. My parents had went to Hogwarts, so I had no clue of which house I'd be sorted into. I always secretly wished I would have been able to attend Hogwarts just like my mother.
