The cab drivers seemed a bit worried when we asked to stop at a cemetery in Manhattan, but didn't ask any further questions.

By the time they entered the Silent City, Jonathan was already tired and could hardly stand on his own, since he has not fully recovered and the fire still burns inside of him.

One of the Silent Brothers led the group down a series of hallways and room, though Amelia knew the way on her own. She had been there for many interrogations since the beginning of the Mortal War, mostly as a part of her studies.

They finally entered a room, already holding a few Clave members that Amelia didn't recognize. They saw Jonathan leaning on Amelia as they walked in, receiving a few nasty looks. She helped him stand straight, and was handed the Mortal Sword from a Silent Brother. Amelia watched her cousin, Julian, get questioned by the Sword, and the pain it brought him, but she pushed away the thoughts.

"He will tell you anything you want. Is this really necessary?" Clary asked.

"Silence, Clary Fairchild. It is Clave orders, and you may leave if you like," one of the other Shadowhunters said.

"It'll be okay," Amelia lied, trying to sound reassuring.

Amelia slowly placed the swords in Jonathan's hands, and he instantly sunk to his knees. Clary moved to help, but Jace held her back.

Amelia decided to start with some easy questions.

"Can you tell us your name?"

"Jonathan Morgenstern." He replied quickly.

"You used to go by Sebastian."

"That was not me. That was a poisoned creature that took the name of an innocent man." He said. Amelia glanced at the Clave members, who looked a bit surprised.

"You are not the same man? The same man who killed many Shadowhunters, Downworlders, and mundanes? The same man who started a war?" She asked.

"No, I am not." he said, tears falling from his eyes. Tears of regret and sorrow.

"Have you made any further plans against the Clave, or to harm any other person in this world?"

"No."

"Who else is responsible for this amount of destruction you caused?" She asked, attempting to keep her voice from shaking at this point.

"Just the Seelie Queen." Which was not new information to her.

"Do you regret what you have done?" She asked finally.

"Yes. With every part of me." He said. Glancing back at the members, Amelia could tell that some of them were starting to be convinced.

"Thank you for your honesty," She finished and Jonathan dropped the sword. Clary ran to him immediately.

"We will report this to the Clave immediately." Said one Shadowhunter. He began to walk out, followed by the rest.

"You did very well for your first time," Said one kinder-looking lady, before following her group.

The group returned home no more than a half an hour later. Jonathan went with Clary and Jace that time, Alec squeezing between Amelia and Izzy, because Amelia couldn't bare the uncomfortable silence.

When they got back to the Institute, they helped Jonathan back to the infirmary while Amelia quickly went to the library. She wrote a fire message to the Clave about the events in the Silent City, because she knew how biased and one-sided the Clave members can be.

She didn't realize how long she had been in the library until she saw the sun going down through one of the large windows. Amelia couldn't help but think it was beautiful how the orange light shown on the tall buildings of New York at sunset made the whole city feel much warmer and welcoming, leading up to the nights full of bright lights and loud parties that never seemed to end. Sometimes she wished she could live such a careless, free mundane life.

"We are going to go grab something to eat if you want to join us," she heard Isabelle say, followed by the clicking of heels on the floor.

"I'm fine, thank you." Amelia turned and smiled. Isabelle had been her only real friend so far at the Institute, and the only one who made her feel welcome.

"I know it must have been hard," Isabelle said, stopping in front of Amelia. "You have faith in him."

"I do," Amelia admitted.

"If you trust him, so can I," Isabelle said.

"Izzy, thank you for being so kind to me. I know how upset Jace and Alec must be about me being the new head of the Institute."

"Oh, they'll get over it." She smiled.

"I hope they do. I would hate for them to not trust me."

She heard a 'bing' sound.

"That's Alec," Isabelle said, taking out her phone. "I've gotta go. I'll see you later,"

Minutes later, Amelia saw the group leaving the Institute through the library window. She walked quickly to the infirmary when they were out of view. She found Jonathan sitting on his bed, reading the book she left the day before.

"Hello Amelia." He looked up from the book, smiling kindly.

"I'm sorry about today. I knew you weren't strong enough, but you know the Clave," she apologized.

"It's all right, I know it was Clave orders."

"That's not the only reason that I am here. I am also here to tell you that you have a room now." She said after a moment.

"Is there really any point in that?" He asked sadly.

"The Clave has not yet made a final decision on where you stand,"

"But the Lightwoods-"

"The Lightwoods are no longer head of this Institute, I am." She smiled proudly.

Jonathan stood up slowly, putting the book down. "Well then, Ms. Blackthorn, show me the way."

Amelia walked down the series of hallways leading to bedrooms, slowly in order for Jonathan to keep up. She could tell that he was stronger than he had been that morning, probably thanks to the runes Clary has come up with, one that she noticed was new on the side of his neck that she had not recognized.

She passed her room and stopped at the next door to the right. She opened the door and walked in, Jonathan following. It was a very plain room, as hers had been when she arrived.

"Here you go, its yours for the decorating until further noticed."

"Thank you," he said.

"Mine is right next door, and Isabelle is across. Alec, Jace and Clary are a few doors down in case you need anything." She said.

Jonathan and Amelia spent the next hour or so talking in his new room, especially childhood stories.

"-he ran into me and I fell right into the fountain in the garden!" She said.

Jonathan laughed. "Nine years old and boys were already chasing after you."

"Literally." She laughed too.

She checked the time and realized it was nearly midnight. She guessed that time really had gotten away from her. She couldn't imagine where Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle were, but perhaps they had gotten back without telling her.

"You should get some rest," She finally said.

"So soon?" Jonathan asked, like he was disappointed.

"It's nearly midnight."

"So?"

"You need some rest, as do I if I am being honest. We had a long day."

"But-"

"No buts," Amelia said, standing. "Sleep." She said, walking out of the room and to her own. She heard him flop back down onto the bed with a deep sigh. She rolled her eyes, just not knowing what she was going to do with him.
